Re: Virtual Currency - Alt Coin Discussion Thread

I tried doing the x-1, x-2 method as a test run and it sent 7 blocks late. Two practice runs of two orders. I don't understand. But when I do only one send, like x-2 it will show up on x. Parity is freaking out on me when I try creating multiple sends.

I am only using parity. Maybe my sync is off. I don't know. Have you done a practice run with multiple send after block orders and it worked ok?

What sync settings are you using?

I work that day... I want to do a manual send too...

Edit: just did another run one with x-1 and one with x-2 , it worked. Got there at x and x+1. Sweet. My memory is maxed out. 8 gigs.

Tests now won't be representative of the high level of txs at ico time.

What sync settings are there?

Re: Virtual Currency - Alt Coin Discussion Thread

Yeah. I know. I just did more tests and again some are showing up 5 blocks late.
Think it might be cause its so small? Like .01 eth? But if i did 5 eth it might be quicker with the higher fee. Even with the gas limit the network will DDos.
I wish i had enough cash to do x-5 all the way to x.

In parity (browser 127:0.0.1:8180) go to settings then parity tab:
Parity continuously syncs the chain
Parity syncs initially, then sleeps and wakes regularly to resync (default)
Parity syncs only when the RPC is active
Parity doesn't sync

Continuously syncs seems to be the right setting

Max, hard coded in the contract. Do not go above that.
I just looked at their FAQ. They have recommended gas amounts. I don't see max. I haven't examined the smart contract yet.

Let me know what you find. I'm 90% sure I'm going to be buying some tokens too (most likely as a flip - I think this could be a good spot). Still doing a bit more research first & then need to figure out the gas and all that as well.

Do you guys not trust / don't like the idea of the collective-buy smart contract?

Check it out. I have not read it. The devs announced this in the slack channel a few days ago. Things could have changed by now.

Like the date for one....

Personally, i am going to follow the recommended 200000 and the Max of 50 gwei

IDK, u think u can go higher?

Re: Virtual Currency - Alt Coin Discussion Thread

_dave_,

I'm not sure yet. To be honest I haven't done much research on it yet. In theory it sounds fine/should be good. My strategy if I do this is I'm going to get in on the first ceiling by paying more gas. If the 12M CHF gets hit quick like I think it will - that'll basically confirm the demand - then I might even double dip on the next ceiling because I think there'll be a strong market for the tokens once they hit exchanges. There is a fair amount of hype behind it and the team is well-regarded in the community so that's a big + for the short-term.

Tomorrow night is when I'm going to spend a few hours and figure out what's the best play here and how to best do the smart contract so sorry this reply is kind of useless. I'll get back to you tomorrow if I'm going to use the collective-buy one.

What is the high level on Status? Are they building an OS? or a browser? or a mobile app?

Re: Virtual Currency - Alt Coin Discussion Thread

I couldn't get Parity to load up which is really frustrating. I go to type in the node address and nothing loads, super annoying.

Regardless, I'm going to use myetherwallet unless I can figure out Parity in time. Not going to use a collective-buy smart contract, I'm sure it's legit but I'm not a developer and don't want to use someone's code so am not going to go that route. Planning to throw a fairly significant amount of Ether at this, so good luck to everyone tomorrow who's buying hopefully we can get all in

The tutorials are here if anyone is stuck:

https://contribute.status.im/

Also, just a heads-up. For me (I'm CDN) I'm still in the process of speaking with an informed accountant, but I was told it'll likely be better in the end to do ICO's this way for tax purposes:

Wallet #1 (all my ether)
Wallet #1 x-fer to Wallet #2 (ether I'm going to use to buy in ICOs)
<buy and receive tokens in Wallet #2 and do not cross contaminate them with Wallet #1>

Specifically because if you do it all from Wallet #1, the adjusted tax basis supposably gets messed up. Honestly I took accounting and it didn't really make complete sense to me, so I'm not really sure how that works and he said he will do research on it (he wasn't a cryptocurrency guy and I'm getting someone in the firm to look into it) but all the less I thought I'd share that with anyone else in case they think it may be applicable as well. So something to think about: Quarantine the ether you plan to trade/buy tokens with from your main stash for (potential/down the road) tax reasons

Lol sending from 1 to 2 is cross contamination.

As for tax reasons, it's all together anyways and up to you to self report.

Re: Virtual Currency - Alt Coin Discussion Thread

To be honest it didn't make complete sense to me either. It doesn't help he had a minimal understanding of cryptocurrencies. He didn't exactly sound confident and I wasn't happy with his answer so his firm is doing some research and getting back to me. Nevertheless, going wallet #1->#2 is zero effort on my part, so it's a somewhat of a lazy freeroll with respect to tax purposes on my end. FWIW I didn't write it as clear as I meant: Wallet #1 -> Wallet #2 x-fer, you're only x-ferring the Ether you plan to trade or sell. So those are the 'contaminated' Ether, the rest stays quarantined in Wallet #1.

I know, MEW sucks. That's why I'm still trying to get Parity working. I pm'd a couple people on reddit who might be able to help, but if anyone has any idea why I might not be able to get it properly to load let me know. (I'm using windows)

I am a cpa and hold a significant balance in crypto, his advice is so he can create a clean stance, which i agree with, it's less because he wants to be exactly correct and more because he wants his preparation to be easily supportable

sure but at the end of the day, the tax you pay should be the same no matter how you did it.

one way just makes it easier to track and record.

Yes. That's the recommended amount. You won't get in with the recommended amount. Others will pay more fees and get in before you. People were paying 10-20 ether fees to get in to the Aragon ICO. I expect similar here.

Has anyone invested in Antshares(ANS)? Bought in at $6 and more at $10. Wondering if I should hold longterm or sell at next peak.

No. The contract is up. You will get rejected if you go any higher than the 50000000000
