A lot of the sub cent tokens have been the biggest gainers the last week. There is a loose correlation there. Could be that be some kind of automated trading search function? Maybe just psychology; I can buy a lot of X token because the price is .0000xy?

I assume plenty of people don't understand the supply element of the equation, so idiots buy stuff that is cheap thinking it could go to 100$. I even had to explain this to a friend of mine who has been into/interested in crypto for years.

heh, not only was bytecoin a scam from the outset, it continues to get more suckers to this day.

Within hours of privately disclosing to CryptoNote currencies [of a bug found and fixed in monero], 693 billion BCN ($1 mil+) was artificially created.

I would say 90% of the people gambling on Altcoin have no idea what they are doing. At least he admits here

if you're fine with these things, go buy anything.

Buy anything it will probably go up...until it doesn't anymore. Maybe stick to tokens that are in the top 25 market cap. Look for something that has not 40X'd in the last month. This is pure gambling. None of the Altcoins have any business trading as high as they are not even Bitcoin!

I think some of the advice on what is a taxable event earlier was poor. If you trade one crypto for another you are trading one type of property for another. This is a like kind trade and is not taxable.

Here is how it works:

Whenever you buy crypto you create a tax basis. When you sell it or trade it you realize a net gain or loss.

So if you buy 1 BTC in January for $1000 that is your basis. Then in May you buy 1000 Monero for 1 BTC when BTC is worth $2000. You just made $1000 and your new basis is $2000.

If that's all you do that year, you owe tax on $1000 in capital gains. If in December you sell all 1000 Monero for $500 you owe nothing in taxes on the buying/trading/selling. If you sold the next January instead you would owe tax on the $1000 gain you had the previous year in May, and in January you would incur $1500 in capital investment loss vs your $2000 basis at the time you acquired Monero.
