As an investment, be careful. I never buy and hold these altcoins/tokens. I like doing some trading for BTC profit though. It doesn't always go my way and I'm still learning. But it has been a good experience and a nice skill to learn overall like poker. The only crypto I'm willing to hold right now is only Bitcoin.

BUT, tech-wise, I'm looking forward to it. Kinda like in sportsbetting, decentralized prediction markets will be an exciting thing for a lot of people in the future. An example is, thru Augur, we can compare what the media is saying vs what the 'money' is saying. Of course, always follow the money mostly imo.

Like if someone creates a market about the US elections when the campaign starts, 'Will a Republican win or a Democrat?' We'll see a lot of forecasts from different news sites, pollsters and pundits but then the money (the crowd in Augur's case) is saying otherwise.

I think that will say a lot of how manipulative and ****ed up the mainstream media can be.

And I wonder what else what kind of markets people can think of. So hopefully they roll out a good product.

Funny how we didn't notice BitMarkets. It's a decentralized market place much like OpenBazaar, but has a few differences. I think I am liking this one better because of it's "2 of 2 escrow" system that makes it truly trustless and makes the need for a third party escrower unnecessary. Check it out.

From what I hear, they are basically removing the XRP part of Ripple. Sorry bagholders.

^ Seriously Tom? I am fairly active in a couple of cryptocurrency forums and I have never heard anything of that sort. Please post the link of the article or thread where you heard it from.

Thanks.

Interledger will also allow banks to pay transaction fees in local currencies rather than having to use XRP, the native digital currency of the Ripple network.

Ah yeah. It's not that they are 'removing the XRP part of Ripple', that would be impossible as Ripple cannot function without XRP.

By creating Interledger, they're basically making a trustless intermediary between ledgers for easier crossborder payments, whether it be the banks' ledgers, the blockchains of different altcoins and distributed ledgers like Ripple and Stellar, they're all connected under Interledger... If they decide to use it, that is. So it's like another protocol running on top of them all connecting them.

All in all, an exciting time to be following the crypto scene right now.

If I read the info correctly then XRP will no longer be mandatory for the fees and you can define arbitrary value pairs. The two things XRP gets is value from is that you have to pay your fees in XRP and the value pairs where always something:XRP.

This means XRP will never get the value people were hoping for unless I am missing something. I actually think it is theoretically possible to completely stop using XRP and replace it with US$ or any currency the network prefers to pay their fees in.

Whatever that 'true value' is, is up in the air at this point. People who buy and hold XRP are investing in potential and nothing else.

The Ripple network and the Interledger Protocol are separate. Ripple's distributed ledger is just one of the ledgers that will be connected with other ledgers (like blockchains and banks) via Interledger. But it does remove the requirement to use XRP.

There's not even a ledger in Interledger. It's just a protocol to connect all the ledgers be it blockchains, Ripple, Stellar, etc...

A follow up article/news about Bitshares 2.0 (already posted a few posts up).

It's actually called OpenLedger. Basically the idea is it's a platform where exchanges can join and combine their 'players' into one big 'player pool'.

Imagine the Ipoker Network, but for cryptocurrency trading.

Seems like a very low use coin. No liquidity. blockchain website down. Bitcoin has all the development, everytime some accepts bitcoin or puts up a website the coin becomes more valuable. Dash seems same as shadowcash and is used more. $100 million dollar a year is spent by 3rd parties on bitcoin. Very few coins beat bitcoin over 6 month price performance. Thus, if you can find a coin that has been in existence 2 years that beats bitcoin over 6 months it might be something to switch to.

Generally to make a good altcoin, I think zero should go to miners and 1% annual inflation should go to an address. That address supports miners, performs advertising, pays programmers, offers contests. To make a coin now you need to separate from the pack. Coins should be sold into existence.

Avoid trading low volume coins. Although you can if you know what you're doing.

As an investment, just avoid all altcoins for now. It's better to be holding all your crypto in BTC. The altcoin market is depressing.

Hopefully their funding issues are resolved somehow, the technology seems really promising and deflation will be nice to experience.
