They are a bit more conservative, they intend to hardfork 25oct:

Fwiw there is some debate on reddit weather this fork drops immutability:

Shocker. I know all this stuff is in developmental stages, but these guys seem to make or overlook a bunch of stuff. The DAO was a perfect example. Makes me wonder how doable their Proof of Stake is. Can't even begin to imagine what could possibly go wrong when that is implemented.

This was expected and there is a second hard fork planned in a short while. This was always the plan.

The hardfork did what it was supposed to do. While it was being deployed they discovered another mispriced operation which will be hardforked in the next hardfork.

"I would not call what has been happening so far "weekly whack-a-mole"; I would call it a progressive hardening of the geth and parity clients against DoS attacks, with the attacker each time having to resort to picking increasingly high-hanging fruit. The design of the system now satisfies stronger invariants than it did before. Changes like state change journaling and now the on-disk state cache are NOT band-aids, they are large architectural improvements that would have been eventually necessary anyway."

Futures going for 1.6 BTC per ZEC right now. Trading started around 0.02. 80x increase. Could be a classic pump and dump, or zcash could be real.

ZCash (ZEC) has a similar structure to bitcoin. 21 million cap. The difference is ZEC is fully confidential. Sending address/receiving address/transacted amount are all completely encrypted and unviewable on any block explorer unless the parties want to reveal. This makes is much easier for black market activity. The government definitely won't like it. Should that make it worth more than bitcoin? We'll see.

On Dec 30, there will only be around 330,000 ZEC created by that time. So even if 1-10x bitcoin price, it's total market cap will still be less.

Still fascinating to watch it pump up.

Genesis block should be within 1.5 hours and then we'll see it traded on exchange.

Lol.. it spiked to 10 BTC. Idea seems good, although it seems like it would be harder to trust. Granted I'm no programmer so I don't really know how it works.

WTf.. I'm looking on Polo and it's saying it traded at 3000 BTC and is down to 30 BTC now?

WTF WTF WTF.. how the **** did it goto 3000 ****ing BTC. And why the **** am I not playing this ****.

Lol.. now I see.. only 4 ZEC on the sell order book.

I sold some ZEC to my best friend for 3000 BTC per ZEC, but I'll give you a discount and sell it for 10 BTC per. Deal?

Zcash is ****ing stupid and completely unnecessary as an altcoin. It doesn't do anything better that doesn't already exist today without even more risks. I honestly can't believe that people have so much faith in something with so many central points of failure. A lot of people despise vitalik but I think the business model of zcash, the centralization of trust in zcash is magnitudes of order worse than eth, literally.

Plausible deniability and reasonable doubt are thresholds in court of law. There are altcoins that meet that requirement while having complete transparency as a blockchain, as a maintainer, and as a business (e.g. Monero).

For the record I hold no monero no zcash and have no horse inthe race. Don't buy this hype. Zcash is bleeding edge but it is beyond risky as a retainer or wealth and even fungiblility. Can you at this point trust literally 3 ppl in the world to tell you that their VM is rekt and some kid found a way to make zcash out of thin air? And he's been doing it stealthily for 3 months? gtfo. Buying zcash is like buying fedcoin or govcoin. It's playing with fire and by the time you get rekt, you lost your entire arm already. It's untrustworthy at every level. Technically untrustworthy, business untrustworthy.

Every zcash ****** should read this:

I had some dec 30 zcash futures on bitmex. sold them yesterday for a small profit. If I held on to them for a few more hours would've made 10x.

Was crazy manipulation going on yesterday wrecking everyone's shorts.

Are any alt-coins worth mining, or possible to mine, with a 3-4 year old computer?

I have a spare computer with an i5 processor, and curious whether mining altcoins could be greater value than selling the computer for ~$100 tops. Free utilities, too.

No. The hashpower for any worthwhile coin is way above an old crapbox. You're better off selling it for $100 and buying 1000s of altcoins with that money than you are mining...but probably best off just putting that 100 into btc.
