I agree. This guy was trying to make the most important financial decision of his life and Cuban decides to toy with him. Give the man the respect to take a minute and think through his decision.

I really like Cuban both on and off the show but that was just mean.

I disagree, they saw the guy being an idiot and saw an opportunity to make money. Are you saying you wouldn't save yourself $200k in the same situation? This is business and it's not like the guy wasn't trying to negotiate he just did it poorly. He tried to bluff at 2% royalties and got caught.

Same here. I felt bad for the guy until I remembered he was being greedy trying to squeeze a royalty out of them.

Lori is MUCH more entertaining than Barbara. Granted, they edited it that way so we'd like her right away. But still, I hope she is back next season as well.

Also, Kevin and Daymond were hilarious last night during the dog cakes.

Re: The Shark Tank

let's be real, the guy probably made as much as he's gonna make off that idea. $400k is still a $340k profit. that being said, yea, he should have took the $600k and moved on to the next idea in his notebook.

Look at the Shrimp Burger guy.
I think the show realized that being on the show was free advertising and now they make all presenters agree to pay the show a royalty if they get a deal or not. I'm not 100% sure of this (can't find anything on it) but I clearly remember reading it a few months back.

No. It's easy to call the guy an idiot but he did absolutely nothing idiotic. Nothing. And Cuban didn't pounce on an oppourtunity. It's not like Cuban could make the 600k offer knowing the guy wouldn't accept it. He just wanted to "shake things up" on the show. It's what he does and it's what he does well.

Re: The Shark Tank

So you're saying you wouldn't try and make $200k in less than 2 minutes? It's a business pitch everyone's trying to make money. I'm sure Cuban would have accepted the $600k offer but when presented with an opportunity to save money he did. What was the game? Cuban did exactly what he said he was going to do and the guy had plenty of time to say yes but instead he chose to counter offer.

meh, you are really buying into the sharks line of rhetoric that counter offers are being too greedy. that simply isnt how negotiations work.

clearly the entrepreneurs are in a tight spot in these situations because they dont have a team negotiating on their behalf, and they dont really get a second shot. however, i really feel like cuban's tactics significantly change the dynamics of the show and not for the better. you mind get berated if you negotiate too hard, but it was pretty rare before this that doing so actually ended a deal. by having an actual "shot clock" on the deal and having him show that he will walk away from any negotiations is cuban simply taking advantage of the fact that he doesnt give a **** about any of these companies while they all need him. is it shrewd negotiating? yes, clearly, and if you listen to cuban sell people on his offers he is by far the best salesman of the group. i just think it goes a little too far in terms of taking advantage of the situation. its a tv show, he is a billionaire, and these deals really dont matter to him. he shouldnt just throw away money, but i just feel like it is taking it too far for a show and for such small deals.

Re: The Shark Tank

Or you could recognize the fact that he got offered a sweetheart deal for $600k for his balloon in a bottle business and asking for more is just absurd. I'm not sure I understand why what Cuban did is wrong, his goal is to pay as little he can for as much of your business as possible. Anything else is really irrelevant. He's doing it in situations where he has leverage in he's going to use it anyways and any other VC/angel would do the same whether it's a shot clock or simply negotiation a better deal normally. I think you're just a softy who wants to see the little guy win .

I used to like Cuban a good bit, this show is making me think far less of him. Kevin is something of a joker, while some of Cuban's antics just seem way out of line. His constantly putting people on the clock and trying to look like a super tough guy is pretty lame imo. Also that crap he pulled on Robert a few episodes ago to steal his partnership was downright rotten, as was sabotaging the 500k offer down to 400 so that he could have a piece again.

Re: The Shark Tank

i kind of liked it when cuban pulled the clock on the sales guy as i think he had a point there, but wasnt a fan when he did it to the wine balloon guy. i mean that negotiation could have just gone:

"600k"
"with a royalty?"
"no, 600k take it or leave it the offers on the table"

i guess im not a big fan of retracting and changing offers as much as happens in shark tank.

otoh i guess thats what makes it good tv.

im assuming most people know about it already, but imo the best one of these is uk dragons den, in particular the later seasons with james caan/hillary devey and peter jones at his best. it has a very different, nicer feel when compared to shark tank.

I also used one last week. My boss had one at work and I got addicted to trying every surface in the building like doors, filing cabinets, desks, ect. The thing is damn sweet and I'm definitely buying one.

Absolutely not, this is only because it's TV.

It is completely ridiculous to put a "ten second clock" on someone for the most important deal of his life without even allowing him to just rationally think about it for a few minutes. You can not equal sth like that with the investor just wanting to make a good deal.

I'm sure you don't want to, but you actually just legitimized the mafia.

Re: The Shark Tank

Shark Tank won its spot this week so it is doing exceptionally well.

Vegging out watching BNN and another show in this style just came on -- The Pitch. Never seen it before but seems to be the same concept but with not famous investors.

well said. i found this particularly distasteful. seems like the producers have coached the sharks to be more outlandish or w/e the correct adjective is this season. like, for example, cuban seems to vacillate between the good guy and the bad guy based on what the others say/do. kevin is talking even more **** in deals he is not a part of. i mean thats not necesarrily a bad thing but it just brings a whole hammed up reality-tvish quailty to the rest of the show

It is. My wife's cousin made it through and at the last minute turned the show down for this very reason, though I think it was a mistake.
