in a sense that ppl arent going to buy more $200 beanbags if you tell them their purchase is an impulse buy. seems like they would only buy less. describing it that way might put some ppl off or have them question if they really need it. impulse buy seems to suggest that the purchase wasnt really made for a well thought out reason, rather it was just a rash one. idk maybe im taking that too far? perhaps as a poker player i just pride myself a lot in my rational decision making abilities

Lori is just using a sales tactic by creating the fear of loss in a person. Cuban did the same thing with his 24 second clock. If an offer is made by the Sharks, they now lose all leverage since it is out there on the table like a big ole' matzo ball. By pretending to take it away, they put urgency and pressure on the other party.

Fear of loss is sales 102 and is a powerful tool. People hate to lose something even if they don't need it.

Lori is a genius for doing this because it gets deals done!

yup, taking it too far.

Impulse buy doesn't mean poor decisions. Means people aren't in the market for a large beanbag, then they see one in the mall and want one. That doesn't mean when they get home they have buyers remorse.

What the guy was getting at is he has yet to tap into the potential and has strong sales for something not marketed very well.

I think this sums it up well.

He only called it an impulse buy because its not something most people know about, they see it in a store and are like whoa gotta buy this.

If anything him using that term is a good thing as more people know about it they will actually start planning to buy them. I saw the videos and I think these are so multi functional and I do plan on buying one as soon as I move.

Trump and Cuban still going at it on Twitter. Trump is seriously like a middle schooler. Is there a more delusional person on planet earth?

I'm sure a significant portion of it is an act. I'm sure he's a huge arrogant *******, but he's a freaking cartoon character. In sports terms Donald Trump is Skip Bayless.

I know it was a repeat but I really like the banter on tonights episode.

A lot of good shark insight. Really showed why I dislike Lori, so full of ****. 'Lori, what brands have you grown?' ... 'I'm not going to listen to you.'
And then she played the woman card, 'who knows more about little girls.'
Then she played the let me write you a check right now card.
Then she played the pressure card.
She has a horribly fake smile.

Cubans commentary on Kevin was harsh but sounded accurate. Kevin mainly invests in products that have a propriety element and no competition.

Cubans comment at the end about the herbal spray guys being a scam was off. I remember somewhere in this thread we talked about the buyback option, but it seems Lori got sharked. Buyback is 12.5% for $400,000. Bad deal for obvious reasons.

And again Robert was completely useless, almost as bad as the t-mobile plug.

Never eaten lion fish...

The gift wrap thing was pretty stupid, and the guy put on one of the worst / awkward pitches in shark tank history. I wouldn't say that Cuban and Lori fought over it. Lori offered $150,000 for the whole company. Cuban countered at $250,000 for the whole company + a 3% royalty forever. The choice was easy for the guy with a bad idea that he did nothing with for 10 years.

The only thing that was probably beneficial to one of the sharks was the utility patent on the product. It will be interesting to follow up and see what Cuban ends up doing with it.

- I was really impressed by the 18 yo with the sugar scrub. She knew her business inside and out, was obviously passionate about the product, and she has the kind of story that women are really going to buy into and want to support by choosing her product. Cosmetics is definitely a tough market, but I think she's going far... I do question the wisdom of giving up such a high percentage of the company though b/c, like Damon said, it seemed like the company was already on a pretty good growth path and just being on the show is going to make her sales job so much easier.

- I'll be interested in seeing if the gift wrap product is successful. On first blush it seems like a good idea, but then I looked at some of the things that he wrapped and I didn't really like some of them because they gave away the shape (and hence, the likely contents) of oddly- shaped items. Given that the use case for the product is probably highest for those types of items (rectangles or squares are pretty easy to wrap once you've done a few of them), I wonder how much demand there really will be. Also, they didn't show anyone opening a sealed gift, right? How tightly do you think that stuff seals to the gift and how easy is it to unwrap cleanly?

I've never eaten a lion fish. Their valuation was crazy and they have no sales. How do they know that they could even fulfill supply if they make it big when you have to spear each individual fish?

I liked the gift wrap idea. I'd be someone that would purchase that. However I don't know how it would work when the gift doesn't neatly fit into the wrap, say the book is small and there's 30% leftover material at the top, will there be an excessive bundle at the top? Yesterday I spent $11 on wrapping paper for one baby gift, so useless.

The show edited the pitch to make it look even worse... but it was pretty bad.

I really liked how Cuban swooped in and took the deal from Lori, her face was priceless.

The Simple Sugars girl gave up a lot of equity... it was obvious Cuban wasn't going to negotiate, the second she said, 'I'd like to counter' I laughed.

Anyone else notice that during the commercials 20/20 gave an update on one of the shark tank pitches that didn't get a deal on shark tank but has now made it big and tributes his success to being on 20/20? The guy that refused to outsource to China for his truck bed device.

Another thing about the gift wrap is that its likely market is guys who suck at wrapping presents. This also most likely means guys who are single and don't have a S.O. to help them gift wrap. But it requires a hair dryer, which most guys probably don't have.

it's funny, i actually came to this thread to comment that the last couple episodes have been some of the least interesting episodes to me.

also, i've started to like Dragon's Den Canada more. Especially when Brett Wilson was on the show, because he's actually a legit angel investor unlike pretty much all the rest of the DD/Shark Tank "investors." (Cuban excepted)

yea this . if it came w/ a mini hairdryer or something like that i would buy it .

also the drop stop was a great idea , something i would def buy and need . lol at robert never have anything fall in between seats .

the sugar cube girl was really good but the thing about her product is that cosmetics is very competitive and someone can come around and crush her . but more likely it seems she will be bought out by a larger company . .

I wouldn't go this far, but I do think that I'm enjoying the show less and less as the sharks tend to repeat patterns of behavior. Robert is his usual waste of space, functioning more as a guy to summarize the deals. Kevin wants his royalty-based deal. Laurie touts all her supposed connections. Mark's son has skin problems. And Damond has clever wit but says the product really isn't in his space.

I enjoyed the show more when I couldn't pretty much guess the outcome in most cases based solely on the product and the valuation being sought.

Today I went to a baby shower and got a little gift bag with three pieces of chocolate. I took a turn hard while driving home and all three pieces flew out of the bag right into the car seat space!!! When I got home I spent at least 5 minutes trying to get them out. I kept thinking of the episode. Great idea.

I really wish they would experiment with a few episodes where they get legit angel investors and get businesses that aren't just consumer products. Maybe it wouldn't work, I know I'd like it though.

Also lol at Robert going out right away on the shrinkwraps - "I don't see the market." What an idiot. Dude seriously just won't take anything that isn't a sure thing unless he super-connects emotionally to the entrepreneur.

Robert so **** worthless it is unbelievable how they still have him on the show. Also tired of Lori I think she does too many offers trying to **** over the person and her faux outrage when they don't immediately accept is annoying as well. Barbara is just strange she has a little gamble in her but also makes some wtf comments on the reg. Wish they could find a woman version of Cuban.

I have been watching the Canadian Dragon's Den lately, pretty legit. U.K. version seems downright terrible however

Drop stop- cool product, agree with the "why hasnt anyone else thought of this" thinking.
I wouldnt pay for them (its just a piece of foam[actually neoprene] with a hole), but sure lots of people will.
Cool website and sales videohttp://www.buydropstop.com/index.html

I liked the bag but Im down on wrapping as a whole, waste of money in my book.
Guy probably creamed in his pants when Cuban made that offer.

Skin care girl was awesome, tough market, but I think Cuban got excited when he learned how much the competitor charges for the product and there is room for large margins. Bet you dollars to donuts he is going to get her to raise the price a good bit, maybe even double.

Lion fish, I honestly thought this was a pre Aprils Fools day prank at first cuz it seemed so absurd. Who knows , they may turn this thing into a high priced delicacy and sell to wealthy asians one day, it LOOKS like an expensive fish.

Robert is actually getting worse and worse (didn't think this was possible). Lori and Cuban are the only ones that actually invest. If it's a girly or QVC type product Lori gets the deal. If Cuban can help the business, he gets the deal. The other 3 are worthless.

Drop Stop is genius and I'm thinking about buying one and even for family.

I thought the 250K purchase was really smart by Cuban. That's a "Made for TV"-type product if I've ever seen one, where he should easily be able to recoup his investment.

Also thought the 18-year old's product was very good (and a great story). Another good investment, I'm sure it can be nothing more than a niche product and still do very well.
