This is just a guess, but I'd bet that at least 75% of Snuggie sales were for gag gifts or Christmas Yankee Swap events. The price point is right, and the ads embraced the cheesiness. A year or two ago my wife said that something like four of the twenty gifts in her Yankee Swap were Snuggies. People figure that $20 is well worth the fun or humor involved in opening the gifts, knowing full well that the recipient probably will never even wear it. Sure, some ended up being regifted, which undercuts sales, but even then it still would've generated lots of money.

That cooler cup was a terrible product. Just use a koozie? I don't get it at all. Koozie folds in your pocket, keeps your drink cold for an hour even in the Texas death heat, and costs like $1. No one is buying that cooler cup thing.

Still can't believe they were interested in the hoodie pillow, even as a gag gift I don't see many people buying them. Sometimes, the sharks surprise you with what they are or are not interested in

I think they were more interested in the travel version. I think the pillow version is terrible.

This. They were all but out before he presented that.

You guys are also underestimated the value of experience. VCs invest more in people than "ideas." I think they all recognized that the girl hustled the crap out of a mediocre product (kitty bathroom thingie) and turned it into a profitable, scaleable product.

Someone else already paid for her learning curve on that product, so assuming there was some hustle in addition to the luck, they are effectively buying an established asset. I think a $350k pre-money price for someone who's created a $5M run rate biz is pretty cheap.

I hate the smart wheel, but loved Kevin crushing the dreams of children.

dreams were not crushed. they got a deal.

Your right, I should have been more accurate in that it was only a momentary crushin of dreams.

i love mr. wonderful

does anyone watch the dragons den UK version?

DDC is prob overall my favorite with ST close behind. And then DD-UK seems significantly worse. Many of the pitchers seem totally unprepared and in general have way less appealing ideas/products/businesses. The Dragons have a much different feel too.

Barbara really didn't get how a log of the steering wheel could be a deterrent for kids? Seems like something parents would love. I know I was a total ******* when I had my license at 16 years old.

Ye the UK version is pretty bad. I tried watching Season 1, but could only stand a few episodes before I gave up. And since I am based in Europe, I was hoping it would feel more relevant in terms of businesses. The Dragons are boring, the pitchers are poor, the production quality is very low.

I just stick to Dragons Den CA and Shark Tank. If anyone feels there is a UK season worth watching, please do share as I was left with a pretty bad impression early on.

I might have missed it, but does the Smart Wheel know when the car is in motion?

think it just turns on whenever the car is on ,

if that's the case, think of how incredibly annoying it would be. At every red light or traffic jam you need to keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times???

Smart wheel was obviously designed by kids who've never driven once in their lives. If you take one hand off the wheel for a second to use your turn signal, turn on your wipers, use the stereo, or even just take a sip of your beer this thing's gonna go off and start beeping at you???

think theres a 5 second delay before it starts beeping when one hand is off the wheel

Barbara felt that kids would be most likely to take the smart wheel off knowing that their parents would get a log of what's going on. She thinks kids would be more likely to comply with keeping the wheel on if there is no log for the parents to see.

My thoughts
Who wants smore- Want to try, very expensive, anyone can do it. She can probably do pretty well in her general area though.

How we roll- Like the idea alot, would patronize for sure. Barbara thought the presentation was too polished, anyone else get that feeling?

Padded room- Man the Bea Arthur chick is smoking hot! Not a horrible idea but has
a long way to go in terms of marketing and in terms of the owner having real biz sense.
That crying after the show tells me she is not used to criticism and people telling her no, also may be semi psycho.

Smart Wheel- Love the kids, even if they are kinda annoying, but hey they are kids.
Maybe Barbara had problems with her non obedient son but thinking that most kids if faced with driving safely with the SM vs not driving at all will choose the later. Sure some kids will try to game the system by rigging the thing though.

This thing could have very big potential once refined so I think Robert and Mark are making a good gamble with this one.

Love how Robert was semi offended when the kids asked for someone else to join him,"What am I chopped liver?" He does seem like the most childish of the sharks and love how he tore up a check at an actual closing one time on Dragons Den when someone offended him.

Robert tears checkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDR_WEl4wMg

why is this implied to be a bad thing? makes it seem like they've pitched a lot of VCs and failed to get a deal for w/e reason?

I used to go to the original How Do You Roll location regularly. This is back when they first opened and I was scared they wouldn't make it as I seemed the be the only regular. Their location was downtown, but not ideal so foot traffic was low. The quality is basically on par to freshly made grocery store sushi from a good place. Roll is like $6-8 depending on options and they had some weird options like strawberries. Obviously the fact I went regularly meant I thought it was all around a decent enough value. I did usually have to get 1.5-2 rolls to fill myself up though. They had miso soup or edamame you could add for $1 more.

I think it was priced based upon your protein (salmon, tuna, whitefish, shrimp, tofu, etc). Then you got 3 veggies free and a sauce. You could pay for more veggies/sauce. Avacado counted as 1 veggie only and was fresh avacado slices so ofc I got that. Think I usually got tuna/avacado/sprouts/some other veggie.

Interesting to see where they go from here.

ETA: It's interesting Barbara (I think) mentioned liquor. They sold beer/wine (at least back then) and it seemed like it did fairly well sales-wise.
