I'm cringing just typing this b/c I generally can't stand Kevin, but gotta say I agree with him re: the fight that broke out right after the hot sauce company's pitch. Definitely got the sense that is in fact drawing dead, and they're better served by having a more honest assessment of their situation. Their $1.5m valuation seemed absurd given the edited version of the pitch that was aired.

Sunscreener deal seemed pretty bad TBH. Surprised Kevin was eager to make a deal.

Kash (sp?) one of the worst personalities I have ever seen on the show if not the worst. Would be a nightmare to work with. Glad that every shark basically called him out.

He was really abrasive, kind of hard to believe he ran the marketing department for twitter. Very satisfying watching the cuban beat down on him.

-Sunscreener deal is hilarious. The product itself cracks me up, i can't believe he got 800k for that.

It seems like an easy enough thing to license. His product looked crappy but I'm sure there are a couple of major sunscreen manufacturers who'll want to license it to sell more sunscreen.

There are millions of helicopter moms out there worried about their snowflakes. Within a couple yrs there won't be any kids allowed outside without being inspected from head to toe every 30 minutes.

Watched Episode 9 last night.

Pupbox: This product already exists, eg: barkbox, "woof", etc. I think the valuation was pretty optimistic considering this. Seems easily copyable, and a space that already exists. I guess they're tailoring it specifically for puppies? I don't know, too risky for me at that value.

Algae woman: lol. Glad to see the pseudo-science nuts get creamed.

Fishline ringcutter: I mean 120k for 33% of the business isn't all that risky, I could see Damien recouping that investment with this pretty easy. Probably the best deal of the night, still seems risky in aggregate as a product, but 120 for a third seems like a good deal. Product seemed interesting and useful if they can scale it quickly, but I don't fish so I could be dead wrong on what fishermen are willing to utilize.

Episode 10:

Skateboard seems pretty cool. I don't know if i'd pay $1500 for one though, seems like an 8-900$ product? I agree with Robert that this doesn't really seem like a new mode of mass transport, if you're already riding a bike/board to work this could replace that, but how many NEW users are going to use this as a mode of commuting? Either way, it looked cool/interesting.

I'm not gonna touch the Organic Dog food chef thing.

Chewable coffee: I'm sure it has a niche but valuation obviously ridiculous.

Last new episode of 2016.

No chance in hell that kid knew what Barbara's deal meant for his snow gloves.

Why does anyone ever do that deal where they have to pay a royalty until somebody gets 3x their money back AND gives up equity?

Kids looking for 300k, maybe ask the guy who is standing next to you who said he's worth 100 million dollars.

I think they quite obviously mostly wanted the exposure of the show + the knowledge of the Sharks. Money was the least of their worries.

I think the moment the gloves go into markets that require precision work and dexterity (trades people, engineering, hunting, fishing) they could explode. But instead of that strap I'd have it snap in place if possible.

Gloves deal was interesting, Barbara gave them a 300k secured loan for 25%. Combined with the fact that she knew the old guy is supporting the business a lot it seems like a very very good deal.

I guess the old guy had a special connection to the kid or his family and that he knew the kid needed help to get it to become a succesful business, but he's too old for the job? Not sure why they went on shark tank to obtain that but shark tank's exposure will certainly explode the business if they're ready for it.

Also thought they'd have to raise 450k total since that is what they asked for.

I guess they counted 600,000 as the investment

watching s8e2 with the fish thing. this ep especially is really tilting with the sharks doing the "YOU HAVE TO ANSWER NOW" thing. I wish they would stop doing that ****

I feel so bad for her husband.

Maybe it was partly the edit, but I don't know how the sharks were so nice to her after she refused to listen and constantly interrupted them with answers that weren't even relevant to what was being asked.

And yeah, superlol at the whole "I'm smart but I'm not fancy" thing, where the meaning of "fancy" was just not being an idiot in general.

So painful to watch.

Wife and I are convinced they've started screening the prospective applicants totally differently to make for better TV. Already this season it seems like a record amount of people who don't know things like how to value their company etc... Pretty big contrast from the people who know their numbers. And that's fine, keeps us watching.

Also got a good chuckle from the yoga chick who insisted she's an "executive" type and said something like "Do you think companies don't need CEOs?" (implying that's what she is) and then later admitted she has no clue how to value her company.

Kevin O'Leary just threW his hat in to be the next leader of the Consrvative party here in Canada. He's running against 13 or so others and they are the main opposition party right now (the parallels are delicious...).

I don't know who the other candidates are, but I'll be shocked if Mr. Wonderful doesn't win the leadership. Whether or not he's Canada's next Prime Minister depends on Trudeau's electoral reform. Under the current system, O'Leary wins a majority government.

In the last episode i thought the paintable children cardboard castles idea was pretty good, but the pricepoint seems to be way off. I mean 99 dollars for cardboard, that breaks easy.
Im thinking of doing something similar in my country and asking papercompanies about prices. I think there is a possibility of getting some kind of financial support from the EU, because of recyclable materials and so on.
Good pricepoint i think would be like 30-40 euros. Young mothers could go ape**** for this product if marketing done right(lets say you emphasize how much your kid will develop etc.)

Why was Barbara such a bitch to the tinyhouse guys? Seems like she didn't understand what the guys were saying when they were willing to lower the valuation for the sharks.

edit: I guess she just really objects to the valuation.
