Pizza segment was very interesting. It's obvious product innovation often gets stunted because it's too difficult to get a return in a reasonable timeframe. But that box looked really cool and handy, I think it WOULD sell more pizzas.

The box also looked really handy if you don't want to eat the whole pizza at once and take the last half with you for later consumption.

I guess the impact on the bottom line the box has is way bigger than I can imagine .

So, groovebook was purchased for $14.5mm. What was the original deal for Groovebook on shark tank?

150k for 80% of their non-subscription business. Mark and Kevin actually wanted to go and sell Groovebook as a service to places like Shutterfly, iirc. I wonder how all of that shakes out now.

I was intrigued by Phonesoap (dumb name though - "sanicharge" FTW) and didn't expect the segment to unfold as it did.

While the unit was bigger than a standard charger, it's not like it was enormous. It certainly could fit into a lady's purse, a briefcase, or a luggage carry on. And the charging aspect seemed key, since it not only serves a necessary function but also swallows a good part of a cost you'd already have to spend.

The hospital angle was interesting (why not nursing homes too, or a locker room or gym). I wonder if the technology could be turned into a conveyor belt type of system, where instead of opening and closing a unit folks could drop their phone on a belt, have it go under a UV area, and then grab the sanitized phone on the other end. I guess that might lead to theft or the possibility of two similar phones being confused; but it also would let there be more continuity and less waiting.

I'm glad they got a deal, but Lori might not be the best match.

Tycoon was ridiculous. Not taking a deal with Kevin for ANY valuation sure seemed to suggest the guy was there only for the publicity. After all, Kevin can just plop it into his financial services portfolio. I'm surprised Kevin didn't give him his usual threat - which is this case is 100% true - that he can just do the same thing since there's nothing proprietary.

That Tycoon real estate thing was one of the most evil ideas ever on Shark Tank. That company will prolly do well, but it's gonna get regular Americans in debt. Mark treated it exactly right.

My take on the Tycoon guy turning that down was because he didn't have that much equity to give up. But in a vacuum Kevin attaching his brand to that instantly makes you more money in most cases. It's weird that he didn't understand how much value that adds in his specific business model, which is why I don't think he had much equity to sell in the first place. And yeah, evil business.

Seeing Mark go insta-out on Tycoon made me wonder if there are any fan sites out there which keep track of the order in which the Sharks announce they're out. I realize there's data about who's made the highest percentage of deal and for how much money and which percentages, but what about this kind of statistic? I'm not even talking how long - in air time - they take to go out (although that would be interesting, if unrealistic given editing); I just mean who goes out first most often, last most often, etc.

I have to think Mark is either first out or last out quite a bit, and Barbara usually is out pretty early. And I'd imagine Kevin stays in a while on average, or it might just be that he talks a lot, even after going out.

I didn't really think anything of the products last night were that interesting. Lori seemed pretty tilted the entire episode. I know they said they sold the lip balm in adult stores but was there something on the packaging that was overly sexual? or is that a phrase that typically alludes to sex? Also do dogs really enjoy grass that much? I know they like playing in it but to take a ****? I've seen plenty of crap on the sidewalk in cities so it must not be that big of a deal? I guess it's nice to put on your balcony but I can see it getting pretty gross pretty quick.

I was coming to post the same thing. I think they had more lousy segments for the season than they could handle, so voila - a special Tuesday night new episode for our viewing pleasure.

Grass is a top idea. Cats will love it as well. They love to eat some grass. its good for their stomach.

It can also be used for people wanting to do natural yoga or just for having a spot to relax in every now and then on your balcony.

I think the grass idea is kinda crazy but obviously his sales speak for themselves.

I've personally ran into 3+ dogs that only poop on grass so there have to be a lot more of them out there.

Its a feel good purchase for the lazy, city dwelling, dog owner.

one of the few times that I don't think being on shark tank will help them at all.

Potty pads and those fake grass things go bad even faster though. I have a 3 pound dog who hates the cold and you go through a pad a day. I imagine the grass does a great job to minimize any smell. The grass probably only costs 2 times the amount pads do and aren't nearly as nasty. Getting them in retail and using that to drive subscriptions is probably fairly +ev if you can get a good display and location inside petsmart/pet co

Lori was quite the cry baby on that episode. Robert's inferiority complex must be rubbing off on her, always sitting next to him. Like 4/5 sharks were screaming at the guy at the same time. Grow up.

Kevin continues to make me laugh. Him and Mark make the show, the rest are replaceable.

Agree with almost all of this but I think Barbara is very sharp.

Crikeys. That Lip Bar silliness was one of the dumbest ideas I've heard of in a long time. I don't pretend to understand women even a bit, but I never met one who wants to walk around looking like a purple version of the clown from Stephen King's It.

I can't believe the ****ty deal they offered the dog chew guys. Basically they wanted these guys to pay them interest on a loan they didn't need and just straight give them 15% equity.

Good for Cuban for attempting to call the sharks on their bs offer. As usual Robert chimes in at the end with an idiotic offer he knows they won't take.

Dragons Den had an Australian version. It wasn't amazing, but was watchable enough.

If they try to do an 'American-style', its gonna suck and be cringeworthy; if they just use the name and make their own show it could be really good.

The problem with transplanting a lot of these shows is that it is the people not the format that makes it work.

how many times have you watched a pitch and thought "man, that is a game changer? I can't live without that!"

i can't recall ever feeling that way, but then again, that type of innovation probably wouldn't have to waste its time with Shark Tank

It's hard to take this show seriously when you realize that the sharks back out of over half the deals they make on tv. The producers obviously tell them that there are a certain amount of deals that need to be made for tv, with the sharks knowing full well that they can drop any deal that is made.

Yep this is very true, kind of leads in to what I'm saying...

Like if we can get good aussie business people just being themselves it could work.

If we get insecure people all trying desperately to be kevin oleary it will be utterly terrible.

Not surprised the protein nut butter guys made it big. That was a slam dunk when it came on. They'll do 15 mil a year pretty soon I suspect.
