Selling A Domain Name

My friend recently asked me if I could help him sell a domain name and I told him I would help and was wondering the best ways to go about it.

I know about the paid services SEDO, Flippa, Bido, Afternic, Snapnames, GoDaddy etc. etc.

We are just looking for the best solution or maybe even a more labor intensive but less expensive route like forum posting or private broker (if we could find someone on commission or something).

My other question is how do you even go about appraising just a domain name.

Any help I can get on this is appreciated.

Re: Selling A Domain Name

Would certainly be easier to answer these questions if you told us the name

Re: Selling A Domain Name

It's a pretty standard LLLL.com domain name. Hoping this would spark some overall general insight into the whole entire process. If it is an absolute requirement to post the domain name to get some good advice I can do that (was trying to avoid being spammy in anyway).

Re: Selling A Domain Name

go ahead and post it.

I believe you can put it on go daddy auctions for a few bucks. I don't see why you wouldn't just do something like that.

Re: Selling A Domain Name

is it pronounceable? It's probably worth much less than he thinks.

posting it on sitepoint or dnforum is probably his best bet.

-Its an LLLL.com

-Yes

-No

-DNForum is a subscription based forum (you have to pay to play)

-Posted it on sitepoint. Not much action yet and they have pretty strict posting rules as well.

Have posted it in around 20 domaining forums so far.

Re: Selling A Domain Name

your best bet would be to put it out there and wait until someone wants to build a brand around it. Make it easy to be contacted.

Otherwise you would be able to get probably $1-1.5k at best.

Re: Selling A Domain Name

seriously what the **** are you afraid of? you're trying to get something sold. do you think that you can keep the domain name secret from everyone until they've paid you?

why WOULDN'T you post it here? MORE EXPOSURE. what the ****. you've posted it in 20 domaining forums AND put it up for sale on sitepoint. but won't say what it is here.

are you mentally deficient?

What do you expect people to tell you here? That there is some magic super secret forum where LLLL.com sell for millions?

You are already familiar with forums/Ebay/Sedo so you can just as easily browse prior sales to look for comparable domains to see how much they sold for.

Re: Selling A Domain Name

If your not getting any action yet then it's probably a terrible name or your asking way too much.

Re: Selling A Domain Name

Party:

-The name is asow.com . I was not trying to sell it here. I was just trying to get some general business advice and to see if I was missing anything in regards to accomplishing the task in the most optimal and efficient way possible. I still need to understand the process if I want to do it for another 10 .com names that my friend has in his portfolio.

dc_publius:

-Sounds like I have accounted for all options. Thanks for the advice to compare past sales of similar domains. I am looking into that now.

t_roy:

-No price has been set yet. I have no true idea of what makes a good domain name or one that is easily sold and is why I was hoping to get some general insight from the talented business members of this forum. I have already learned a lot from this thread, my time posting in other forums and my research on Domain selling.

Again thanks for everyone's help. As always it is greatly appreciated and highly valued by me. Hope everyone has a good rest of the weekend!
