This is a pretty fantastic book.

I take pity on anyone just starting out though. The trading literature is second only to the "new age" section at Barnes and Noble as far as bull**** and nonsense in print goes.

Hey guys,

Really interested in Global Macro trading. Wanting to learn more about the correlations around the world in commodities and forex markets in reference to stocks etc. Any suggestions? I'm also interested in learning more about the places like Tudor that do this kind of trading

Hey I was looking at buying Security Analysis and i was wondering if there was any reason why I should spend an extra 20-30$ on getting the 6th edition or would the 5th do just fine?

Regards,
Mathieu

You should probably set your money on fire rather than invest directly in commodities. At least it will generate some heat.

I'm interested in entrepreneurship.

I play poker for income and I'm looking to start-up other enterprises to earn income outside of poker.

I'm looking for a mix of inspiration to motivate me and a "how-to" guide for some guidance. I read Kevin O'leary's book and didn't enjoy it. Any suggestions?

Intelligent Investor is a great book. Except the version I have has chapter explanations written by Jason Zweig, who, IMHO, is an idiot. He is basically a Boglehead but makes his living pretending to channel Ben Graham's voice from the afterlife.

oil 101 by morgan downey - for the layman that knows not too much about the world of oil, this book goes into depth and is a great insider narrative.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer sound council. I am preparing to make an offer on a small business. This will place me "in over my head" in the best way. I am considering purchasing a very reasonably priced Business Buying Guide that can be seen here:

http://www.diomo.com/

I am looking for solid info on small business valuation, due diligence checklists, and other tools to check my thinking and judgments. I have looked this over and feel it will improve my chances of getting a good business at a good price. Any thoughts? Anybody have experience with this guide? What about any other tools that you may be aware of to assist a small business buyer? Thanks again.

I have a time management question for you guys suggesting keeping up to date with The Economist, WSJ, Seeking Alpha etc etc. How do you find time to read all this - do you only read some specific parts (maybe related to a given sector) or just skim over the headlines?

I stay on top of all those you mentioned. I get 3 daily emails from SA and open maybe 8-15 articles in total that catch my interest (are relevant to my portfolio or employment/future employment). Takes up the first 30-45 minutes of my day as I slam a cup of coffee or two and get situated for the rest of my day. I treat WSJ the same, and often my SA emails contain any of the relevant WSJ articles. Reading the economist takes maybe an 30min tops, which I allocate one sitting on the toilet a week to. Likewise with Bloomberg Business mag.

Nice job reading the entire The Economist in 30 mins ;-) But yeah - it seems I need more of a structured approach to reading these things.

_ _ _ _

Podcasts
I can't seem to find anything related to it ITT. I currently listen to the following, but am interested in more:
- The Economist
- FT
- Freakonomics
- NPR: Planet Money

Suggestions?

Has anyone listened to WSJ's?

Seth Klarman's/ Baupost annual shareholder letter. Be quick as it usually disappears as fast as it become available.

If Kiyosaki is garbage then what's a good book to start learning how to manage my excess money? or teach tools so I can figure this out myself?

I'm not interested in learning trading and I'm not about to throw money at some financial advisor.

I consulted the OP but it seems heavy on trading-related material.

tyty in advance

Hi clayton. Glad to hear your looking to put your money to work for you. I would recommend you read either or both of these two books.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/047...SIN=0470505141

You're going to end up having low-cost mutual funds that are index-based and is individually tailored to your own risk tolerance (your asset allocation). It is simple, effective, passive, and will beat 80% of all active fund managers and "investment advisors" year after year.

Let me know if you ever have any Q's.
