Had no idea where to stick this and didn't seem thread worthy, but this is a cool interview of Ajit Jain, the guy many now suspect will take over for Warren Buffett.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv_AMj9y6ic

He nails the exact concept of results oriented thinking that we know so well from poker and says that Buffett is great at not judging decisions based upon outcomes. That makes intuitive sense obviously but is not really practiced at all imo on wall street/in business, it seems Warren has been on this one for decades

great thread. thank you very much.....

edward o'neil book is great. probably the best first book you could read. and tons of interesting content. martin zweig book too

not sure if these next two have been mentioned:

tortierello sp? http://seekingalpha.com/article/1389...rd-tortoriello

Snowball, the definitive biography on Warren Buffett. i found the hero worship on him somewhat annoying before reading this book. but after reading the book especially involving his younger years i was very very impressed. Loewenstein's biography is excellent, and much shorter.

going to jump into jim cramer's books soon. not a huge fan, but he's definitely very knowledgable and people i know speak highly of his books

michael bloomberg's autobiography is very good, maybe more general business principles more than investment.

Recommend something for me to read to convince me the EMH is way wrong and there are actually frequently opportunities to make money buying and selling mispriced securities. I took a few econ classes in college and am comfortable reading something mathy/technical, but I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to practical, real world finance. Currently working my way through Security Analysis by Graham and Dodd.

Not sure if I should post in this thread or not since it doesn't pertian to a book but rather a movie. Floored has finally made it to Netflix instant watch and I finally saw it this past weekend.

I was very disappointed in it. It could have and should have been great but it wasn't. As a 12 year veteran of the Chicago trading floors myself this is a subject very near and dear to my heart.

I thought they did a real bad job of portaying typical floor traders from both the local and broker side. It also did a real bad job of its portrail of screen trading. Most floor traders didn't, couldn't or wouldn't make the shift to screen trading and showing the whiny guy who had no clue about screen trading I felt did a disservice to the entire trading community.

Then in about the middle there was a bizzarre interview with some ex-trader who was quite visably drunk (drunk enough that they used subtitles to understand his slurring speech) and spouting nonsense. In the middle of his interview he abruptly said "Cut" and then they never came back to him. I wonder why they included him in the first place.

Bottom line this movie very inacurately shows the life of a floor trader. It very poorly shows the devastation of the 1000's that lost their livelyhoods when floor trading simply vanished. It also did a poor job of showing the transformation to screen trading.

This movie woulda, coulda, shoulda been great but it wasn't.

Hello everyone,

I've read books from 1st post quoted below and now I am looking for something focusing more on intraday trading strategies. Futures preferably, but stocks will do as well. If anyone has anything in mind, please share with me

Everyone should read this report on Wilpon, Katz, and the Madoff scandal.

If you blindly trust someone with your money - who refuses to explain how he makes staggering annual profits - you will lose everything eventually.

Fooling some of the people all of the time -david einhorn

The middle is pretty long and gets tedious when he talks on and on about Allied, but if you can get through it he's pretty ****ing awesome.

More Money then God - Sebastian Mallaby

provides an interesting history and stories about hedge funds of the past and present. i found it very interesting to read

Good afternoon everybody. I was looking to become more educated on crude oil. I am almost completely ignorant on trading crude oil, if it's just stock, or futures, etc..
Would anyone have recommendations on books, publications, or blogs on the workings of how crude oil is traded? Thank you very much.

When you said trading I am guessing u meant intraday. So the Direxion 3X leveraged is up that alley. Almost forgot. Don't hold those overnight. If u had to 2-3 days MAX bc they decay like a mother ****er bc of the way they roll the contracts

I am reading how to make friends and influence people by carnegie, almost through it. At first i thought i would probably know most of it and it would be a waste of time, but I highly recommend this book to anyone. I think alot of concepts most of us already know if we glance over it, but if you think it through i think alot of us arent using those optimally in daily life. I know i dont. Reading them and reading the examples provided is a good way to memorize them and actively work on improving people skills. should def be put on that list even tho it might look a bit standard. I also see alot of people around me (even salespeople) make many mistakes described in the book.

I did a quick search but I'm unable to locate what I'm looking for.

I'm trying to find a site, or info on relationships between asset classes. I'm looking for something very general that can tell me in general terms the relationship between assets classes. So for example, when the dollar is devalued generally gold prices will increase.

I know none of the relationships are set in stone but I'm just trying to get my ahead around some macro principles.

Thanks
