Probably a really simple question but it's something that I've been interested in for a while and wondered if anyone followed a similiar pattern or could give some advantages/disadvantages of using this kind of strategy.

To keep it simple it would be along the lines of... buying property to let to create cash flow so turning lump sums into income. ROI wouldn't be a huge concern here just having cash coming in reguarly would be. As well as having investments stocks/bonds/funds etc, lump sums of cash in one area for longer terms, locking up cash.

Does it make sense to follow a pattern like this or would it be better to just look for the best possible return.

There would also regular cash flow from employment as well.

Anyone see any massive flaws in creating income in this method?

lol I see your point, I meant more along the lines of combining regular income as well as locking up quantites of cash and then receiving large quantities rather than doing everything in bulk amounts, e.g. buying property, renovating, selling as well as having long term investments.

Yes, you can invest for cash flow. The problem though is if your principle investment does not appreciate, and nor does your cash flow, each year your real returns will be less and less, which is why its advisable to pick an investment for growth.

Total noob-question but doesn't rent get adjusted to inflation in the US? Wouldn't your real return in terms of cash flow at least be stable then?

Just having cash coming in with no concern (or little concern) for ROI is not a good attitude. The more I think about it that would only make sense if OP's native language is not English. These types of posts should always include geographical information.
