I knew his father had a fund for him and that he earned a lot playing poker in college, but how did he make 100 million dollars? He could not have made that playing poker. What did he invest in etc?

If we have to believe him he is a venture capitalist. Furthermore it seems as if he, if we have to believe him, gets into the sickest home games there are.

By getting monies from his dad it seems. Maybe he made some more after but it seems that initially he got a lot of cash from him.

There is NO WAY Dan has "made more money from poker then he's blown on his lifestyle" and that's if he's even up lifetime in money...the only way he still lives his current lifestyle is from his father's stolen money.

I don't get it. People scam others on 2+2 for $5K and get BLASTED on 2+2 about ethics and morals. This guy's dad steals millions and gets treated like a rock star.

I like how he self describes as an "actor" but on his wikipedia it says he was a stuntman on 1 movie, and had an acting role in another movie - that he financed.

He didn't steal any money...but he's living off of money that was stolen.

If he had good morals wouldn't he return the money to the victims? Instead of pretending to be a poker pro and laundering the money.

I'm not saying he's as bad as someone that scams. But if Russ Hamilton's family is living large with our money, I don't think the 2+2 community would be praising his baller family for being so "amazing."

So by that one act alone, he stole from his creditors. Aka welched on a debt that he could of paid back, or at the very least partially paid back, something that isn't usually looked highly upon on 2+2.

If I borrowed $100K from someone on 2+2, then told them, sorry I don't have the money, while secretly hiding the money, and declaring bankruptcy so they get nothing, I don't think people would be praising my daughter's "ballerness" if she went around and just partied with the money I stole.

But for some reason if a Bilzerian does it it's perfectly ok and awesome...and hell, lets even celebrate it!

I checked into the father awhile back and from what I saw it looked a bit like SEC overreach.

From my understanding, $60 million was fines to the government. ($34 million + interest which turned out to be $60 million)

His father, despite the losses was able to leave a trust fund of about 40 million dollars. Considering he has a brother lets say he got half of it. He stated in an interview that he has won over 50 million playing poker. So we're at about 70 odd million. He invested and participated in some movies and most likely made some investments so with some box office and return of those investments i think it's pretty fair to say he's got about what the internet says he's got. But just like someone here already said, " You need money to make money". Hope these were accurate enough for you people. I'd even risk saying he has more than we know, because in the rate he spends his money not even 100 million is enough.

Technically he did not steal and with today's standards he could run for president. Morally he did steal but that puts him with almost all private equity, including Romney, Warren Buffett, and Michael Dell. The loophole is that it only takes a simple majority to buy out a company. The SEC sits around like the clowns they are and allows it to happen. The SEC needs to require a 90% affirmative vote for a company to be taken private or sold and this non-sense would end.
