I'm not sure. Are you saying that when you go to transfer, DBP is going to change the whois info to your info until the new registrar info replaces it? Seems kind of dumb to do it that way but maybe it has to be done for you to get the transfer e-mails.

But even if that does occur, your info is only going to be exposed up until you can complete the transfer to your new registrar. Do you really think someone is constantly requesting whois info for your domain and would get lucky enough to request it during this small opening? And if they do get the info...so what?

correct me if im wrong, but you arent going to be able to get a site to host a domain + wordpress for free. you can get a free blog at wordpress.com, but it wont have your own domain, but it will be free

Is there any good guide to doing keyword research for topics of Ebooks? Sort of like how you decide you want to make a blog on fashion, you do keyword research on fashion, but instead doing it for an Ebook you might want to write?

I would just use Google keyword tool and get a feel for the volumes of exact match searches to judge the interest market you are looking at.

+1. Just remember to use "exact" match and remember not to take it as gospel as those stats can be off. Also be sure to check if the kw term is subject to seasonal change.

Just finished up a little website to show off my resume and examples of my work:
http://chriswarrenseo.com/

Any comments about content or changes that you would like to see if you were going to hire me would be great.

Hey Chris,

I really liked your site. Here's a few things I noticed

-The amazon store is impressive and its the first link I noticed on the site

-I was a little unclear of the input and output process of your google competition tool. Where does it read its data from?(Edit: I found when I looked at the image that its from SEOmoz)

-reading on a netbook in firefox the black background ends and the"wireframe mockups" link font color blends with white background making it easily missable.

Overall its a well designed site. I'll probably steal a few ideas for a site I'm building to promote my data modeling work.

This and I would think if SOPA does actually pass (I hope it does not) then this site would probably be dead in the water.

very brief look at page so far. my thoughts on a few things; don't take them personal:

1. what is the purpose of this site? if it's to pitch you as a SEO guy to potential employers or companies that need a consultant/freelancer, then you need to keep everything as SEO-focused as possible above the fold. from what i've seen you post about SEO on this forum, you really know your stuff. the above the fold section of your site needs to let the user know that. the categories "wireframe mockups" and "example web app" don't support that really, or are too tenuated. neither does the graph, "projected levels of awesome." i think you have to hit people hard with your SEO expertise/accomplishments on the above the fold area and grab their interest with what you can do for them so that they'll keep clicking/reading.

edit: ok, i see that "example web app" is SEO related. i'd change category title though so user know that. as it is now, the user wouldn't know it's SEO related.

2. i don't like all the different font sizes on the top 1/2 of the homepage. it's cluttering and makes me not want to read it.

3. i think there should be more contrast between some of the font and background on top half of homepage.

4. the box that says "Great attitude" etc, seems awkward and out of place, especially given they have no quotes. If you feel it's necessary to have it there, i'd do it more like a linkedin style recommendation:

"Great attitude" - John Doe, former supervisor
"Simply gets stuff done" - Jane Doe, CEO

also i'd make the content of the quotes less generic and ho-hum; everyone on their resume has a great attitude, is a team player, a leader, etc

5. i'd think about making the homepage more personal via a real pic of you that shows you at your best, friendliest, etc; right now the page is kinda drab

6. contact info: i, and probably a lot of people, instinctually expect it to be at least at the top right corner of the homepage or furthest right on the top nav menu bar. if you want to keep it at that leftish spot on the nav bar, then i'd probably put one up on furthest top right corner too rather than below Hire Me.

7. make things clickable that seem like they should be clickable: i tried to click your email addresses, "Hire Me," and the "Great attitude" box but they're not clickable. just something to think about with other areas of the page even if you don't agree with those three examples

8. looks good on iPhone (above the fold, no Flash, etc)

9. i don't like the graph title, "Projected levels of awesome." that might work on a message board or more casual environment but not on the homepage imo. too cocky and unprofessional imo. i don't really like the graph at all come to think of it; i'd go with real substance rather than that.

Nice site I like it

Couple of nitpicks, the menu items in Chrome aren't vertically aligned in the middle they look to far up, also the `Great attitu...` box next to the orange button are not vertically aligned either.

I'd also drop the email address as an image and go for an obfuscated email address with Javascript, the convenience of being able to click on the email link is far more important than any spam you might get.

Good idea to put all your info in one place though. No easy way I can see to subscribe to your blog though! I imagine for a site like yours a decent blog will be very valuable to you

This is definitely true there needs to be a more focused message, I am a bit torn because saying you are an SEO expert is a bit of a no-no in the industry (nor do I think I 100% qualify, solid experience not expert). In addition I am not strictly doing SEO work so I think some more thought on my part to get the message clear. Definitely agree the graph has to go as well.

Definitely needs to be changed.

This is an interesting I actually asked several people about this and got almost a 50/50 split. Right now I am playing it safe with links to my social profiles with pictures and leaving it off I may actually run some UI tests.

I agree and I have a slick idea for a graphic for this.

Chrome, but what I noticed was the grammatical error:

Should be, "Here is an article I wrote about..."

We've recently just switched from smartermail to google email for our business email (smartermail kept wiping all our emails lol) but the limitations on gmail for sending email are fairly tight for a mid sized website, around 2,000 a day I think. We're approaching 2k subscribers on some mailing lists (have 3 in total) so this isn't really any good.

Was looking at mailchimp and it seems great, but as soon as you have to pay for it it seems very expensive! $50 p/m for 2.5k-5k subscribers, I don't know if we could justify $600 a year just to send out emails.

Is there any cheaper alternatives anyone can recommend?

You can't get a positive roi on your 2k list for $50 per month??

Fwiw, I use campaign monitor and love it (bit more expensive than mail chimp).
