luego,

WP has a plugin for nearly everything. Just Google whatever you want + "wordpress plugin" and you'll find anything you need. Then just do what guids said and you're golden.

But it doesn't work in the web interface as I understand it. You need something else to get plugins. I guess I should just spend a few hours finding out how to host the blog somewhere else or something?

Yeah you should. You can get good hosting for like $5 a month with Hostgator or Bluehost. They both offer one-click installers. Which means that you click a button and it installs WordPress (or other CMS software) for you automatically. The interface looks exactly the same as the one on WordPress.com fwiw. Same software but more freedom.

You can then export your posts via [tools - export] from the .wordpress.com blog and import them into your WordPress install.

I'm not sure how you let the search engines know that your luegofuego.wordpress site has moved to luegofuego.com

I'm pretty sure (although not positive) that WP will allow you to point your blog to a domain name

Ooh, that sounds awesome. Thanks a lot for that info. Thing is, I already have my blog mapped to a separate domain, but I guess I can still host it at Hostgator. I wish I could show you guys the blog to get some opinions but it's in Swedish, haha.

I have another pretty ambitious project that has a developer on board that deals with all this **** right now, but I really should learn atleast the basics for myself soon. It's goddamn fun, this blogging business.

Haha, fränt. It's www.ninjafotboll.se, but it's not optimized in any way yet. I've just rambled a bunch on it. But I'm getting a ton of visitors since people have liked the content and must have sent the link to other people.

Don't be so quick to jump to Hostgator.

That traffic will have to hop through a lot of servers to get from USA Hostgator machines to your Swedish audience. It _may_ result in some annoying latency issues.

You will figure out how the plug in stuff works and how to make changes... just play around with it more and Google around or have someone show you in real-time. It is easy, but there is a small initial learning curve.

Ah cool! I like the format, passionate expert opinions mixed with betting tips. I think that's an excellent combo. I'm not sure how saturated that particular market is but that doesn't really matter if people respect your opinions and like what you have to say.

I think it looks good and if you readers are into the content and already start to link back to it that's fantastic! I can see why you really want to integrate the Facebook "like button" on that site.

I would add a sidebar widget with your own match picks and highlights for the day/week. I like that you have images in most of your posts, that really helps to spice up the content and make it look more appetizing.

There's not a lot of content on the site but as it grows and you mention players / old matches that you have written about in the past try to link back to them in those posts. Search Engines love that apparently but it's also makes it easier your readers to access all of your content.

Yes that is true but I have to say Hostgator have been working pretty well for me and since I hooked it up with Amazons Cloudfront it's been pretty sweet.

But you do make a good point, if the web hotel isn't overselling their servers your site will load faster if the servers are located in Sweden. Stay away from Binero.se though, those mother ****ers must oversell like crazy. It takes 15-40 seconds for a wordpress site to load over there.

thanks a lot! I figure I need a way lower CTR than most once I finally get some banners on there, since those affiliate deals are so juicy. But obviously, it's mostly for funsies. I got the HostGator account too, hopefully its smooth sailing from here.

luego,

Sorry. I didn't know you didn't have your own server or WE. Once you have your own site and can attach an FTP program to it, uploading plugins is a breeze. I'm pretty well versed in WP so just shout if you need some help.

Hey, anyone know what the best forums are to learn about affiliate marketing? http://www.abestweb.com/forums/ seems to be the largest forum but I'm having some difficulty knowing where to start and if this is the best forum for a noob.

Alright, got the domain re-mapped to my HostGator account. Installed WP and everything. Works well, but customization seems a bit beyond my understanding, besides just throwing plug-ins on it. Still no idea how to put a logo on the header or add some banners to the right-side menu. I guess I need to know CSS for that?

Hey guys, I will have some scripts finished tonight to setup wordpress in 30 seconds (for as many domains as youd like up to a point), and have put up a server for SEO/webhosting use; if anyone is interested in hosting their site (especially, 1 or 2 experimental sites while you learn) let me know. Im also going to put a private IRC server on there so we can chat/learn together.

Lots of themes have settings for inserting headers and stuff like that. Have you looked under Appearance i the WP admin section? If not you can edit the header.php (I think) and insert it the old fashioned way.

To insert banners and other widgets, look under Widgets and just drag the stuff you want to display into the sidebar.

Should I start a site from scratch or look to buy one for say $1k (around what I'm comfortable with since I don't know anything)? What would be better for the learning curve? Also, what should I do to pick a niche I'm interested in working on? Where can I research what niches aren't saturated and are growing etc.?

anyone got any opinions on getting into fairly saturated markets? most people here seem to be talking about making a really ****** blog about some obscure topic and pray for some clicks. but what if you wanted to start a food blog or something with a similar amount of competition? is it possible to claw yourself up through the page ranks?

It's possible, but if you're moving in to any market with a lot of high quality competition, you're going to have to create absolutely top notch content.

And even if you have the best content on the web, you'll need to make contacts with some people who already have a lot of eyeballs, and get them to give you lots of links and press.

guids, does your script just do the install of WP or can it do plugins/ configuration too?

What is the fastest way to see pageranks of sites?

In looking for keywords to target, I want to see what the pageranks are for the first page of results on goolge. Thanks

It does the initial config and install of wordpress (setsup the mysql databse, downloads it, etc); it would only take me a couple minute to build theme/plugin installation into it
