Re: My website ownership experience

This thing slipped way to far down the list of threads...

I have a question in regards to valuation of MFA Micro-Niche sites. I actually put some time/effort into building one last January that churns out a steady $5 bones a month in Adsense revenue. It's based on a fall/winter topic, and I expect my revenue/traffic to increase 5-50x when the weather starts to get cold. It actually blows my mind that people are searching for this topic in the summer. The site also has some amazon affiliates links on there that hit for anywhere from $0-$4 a month currently in the off season.

What's this thing worth if I were going to sell it?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what's "$5 Bones"?

Re: My website ownership experience

It's only value would depend on the domain name likely. $5/month with potential isn't worth anything I wouldn't think.

$5 bones=$5 dollars

I pretty much figured it was worth very little on the resale market, but then another guy tried to convince me it was worth $1,000+. Got me thinking I probably better ask and find out.

Re: My website ownership experience

What's a good way to buy a domain that is not in use? I checked whois and there is no good contact information. It's a 4 letter .com, the initials of my corporation name. Maybe I should just get the .us instead, or use ****inc.com and not bother? I just need a simple website and email domain for my brick and mortar store. I see sedo has a domain brokerage service but wondering if there is something better.

Look on Flippa and see what similar sites are selling for. My guess is that $5/mo niche site that hasn't been affected by Panda will probably sell for $50-$200.

So there is no email in the whois, or it's domainbyproxy? Did you visit the page to see what is there? Did you google the actual domain to see if it shows up on any classifieds for sale?

How much are you willing to spend? Squatted domains are not cheap and if you're looking at .us it doesn't sound like you have a budget for this. 4 letter .com with any semblance of meaning won't be cheap.

Addresses and emails in the whois are care of Network Solutions. Site is 404. nothing on google or sales sites. No semblence of meaning, just 4 random consonants. Screw it, I'm going to get the ****inc.com.

Anyone know of a webpage/app that lets you scan your twitter feed for a specific keyword?

10-20 x month's revenue is the model. but everything depends. How old it is, backlinks, ease of monetization, articles etc., etc.

Don't use domain brokers. These guys side with the sellers to get the highest price possible, because they are on % basis.

There should be an email on his whois. Even if it's private whois the disposable email will be forwarding to his real email. Contact him directly.

Don't mention price. Let him start and try to get lower and lower. Don't tell him you need it for your existing business.

Be ready to drop ~$5-6k

Right now I say you may only get 10x for it, so maybe about $50.

Re: My website ownership experience

Anything that I should know before I register a Romanian domain being a US citizen? Is 101domain.com the best/only place to do this? $40 seems a bit steep for a domain registration? Id like to get it since myname.com is taken but myname.ro where ro are the last two letters of my last name is free.

Anyone else noticing big changes and do you think they are still tweaking things that may bring ranking back up?

My content was unique, about 3% keyword density I think. Links are social bookmarks, link pyramids, and linkpushes from linkpushing.net.
Any luck dumping the junk links?

I bought an italian domain, and it was $30, so I think $40 is probably about right.
