I guess it depends on how much traffic your sites are getting at the moment. But to make any money you will need lots of traffic. A better idea would just be sharing links, like he could have the forum go to yours and your forum could have banners for his site. Him asking for 20% of your total sites revenue is crazy unless his website is one of the biggest on the internet.

You're doing affiliate marketing? Do you use Google adsense as well?

Do you think it's worth using adsense? It sort of makes a website look junky (though some webmasters effectively blend ads into their content) and it diverts visitors away from affiliate links.

I do affiliate marketing for dietary supplement / skincare products / and I use adsense on my website. I make about $50/month from adsense clicks with about 2500 unique visitors / month, but I'm thinking about removing all my ads.

I dont do any affilate marketing. I have used google adsense in the past for other sites but not for my current site. I only sell my product on my site and dont really have any interest in advertising anyone else's site on it.

How much do you make from your affilate marketing? Sounds like your adsense is doing pretty well for how many unique's your getting so you probally want to keep it. Also i dont know how true this is, but i have heard using adsense can help your ranking in google. If you think it is making your site look trashy maybe you could change how many and the format of where they are placed. But i am no expert on adsense and ads.

Okay. Is it a physical product or an ebook on pet training or something?

I haven't actively promoted my site or built new pages since joining the military a year ago. My affiliate earnings have steadily decreased. These days almost all my earnings come from recurring commissions, not first time customers.

Last six months:

Affiliate, Adsense = Total

Feb $35.18, $36.01 = $71.19
Mar $22.19, $49.81 = $72.00
Apr $77.48, $55.35 = $132.83
May $20.54, $57.03 = $77.57
Jun $48.48, $49.91 = $98.39
Jul $53.39, $43.50 = $96.89

Before I enlisted, my monthly affiliate commissions were peaking at ~$100-125 and rising. These were all new customers at the time; a few of them reorder monthly or bi-monthly and I collect a recurring commission. That along with adsense is how I'm earning these days. I haven't touched my site in 1.5 years outside of tinkering.

Yonnyaus,

How did you design your site? Do it yourself or outsource? Mine's on the basic side since I don't have that skill set though I did pay to have a header made.

I sell physical products only.

Thats pretty good to have that set up and make about $1000.00 a year doing nothing. I wouldnt think about taking adsense off with those earning either. Maybe you could spend a couple of days updating things as google has changed a bit in the last 1.5 years too.

I made my site myself with Yahoo stores. I have learnt alot but Yahoo stores makes it really easy and there is alot of information out there to learn how to do what you want. But I wouldnt say im good at design, but I like to keep it basic because it makes it easy to use. I have alot of people who buy comment on how easy it is to use the site. I go to some of my competitors sites and they would of cost alot of money and they work terrible. Someone offered to sell there site to me and it was ranking 1 in google for alot of good keywords and making 10x less than my site and that was because they had such a hard to navigate around site. Would of cost them alot of money to make it, but was made so bad from a e-commerce point of view.

Wire,

Cool passive earnings. I'm hovering right below $300/m at the moment. I need to quit slacking and keep building my sites and I'll be at $1,000/m in no time.

Domains containing trademarked terms: worth buying and developing? E.g. TrademarkedtermGuide.com or TrademarkedtermReport.com.

AcompliaReport.com (pharmaceutical that has since been pulled from the market) is an example I can think of that stayed up. Such sites seem relatively uncommon, though, and I wonder how much trouble a trademark holder might give you, and if they could actually succeed in shutting you down or seizing the domain?

9 months ago I had never heard of a CMS and I knew nothing of the internet except ipokerz, 2+2, iPorn and what I now call social media. I created this site ( www.PokerOso.com ) using Joomla. This site is a work in progress but it has been an incredibly rewarding experience. I’ve learned everything I know so far on the fly. That being said I know about .00005% of what there is to know but everyday I’m excited to learn more. As I stated, PokerOso is a total work in progress but I’ve used it as a huge learning experience and currently have another site that is live and my biggest one to date in development. I can speak from experience when I say that anyone who has an idea, the time, the drive and a little money can get a decent website off the ground. I suppose it’s not really what you know but what you are willing to learn.

My 2 cents.

This is good experience for sure. You don't have to get good at it. You just need to get to the point where you can tell when someone is BSing you and can communicate your needs in techie terms.

I definitely struggled monetizing the site because I simply don’t get that much traffic yet. As a complete beginner I designed the site without ever even hearing the word SEO. My pages didn’t even have title tags but rather, Page 1, Page 2 and so on. I really handicapped myself right out of the gate. It was actually a bit of a blessing because I went out and bought books on SEO, hit the Google Webmaster forums and now I’m on the rise. Albeit at a slow pace.

I also bought some books on web usability, html, CSS and simple graphic design that have been great. Again I am learning everything on the fly. I am also a regular on the Joomla forums which is actually my home page these days. I know that all the different Content Management Systems have great forums so that’s a good place to start.

I guess what I'm saying is that if I can do it anyone can. The caveat to that is that I have worked tremendously hard for my little site and if anyone out there has it in them to do that then the sky is the limit.

I'm now making about $400/m passive income from my online stuff. The majority is with AdSense although I make a little bit from other means, although it's all through the same methods, SEO taught by the program I mentioned earlier.

How does copyright and trademark play into this? Anyone have any experience in owning a site based on a movie?

Phresh, the hardest part of the process seems to be link building. What kind of methods and sources are working for you?

But all us internet marketers that rely on the current algos in the SERPs are probably going to be extinct anyway real soon if we don't keep adapting...the damn screen tappers and mobile are already getting really annoying...

lol big daddy G better watch out too. Somebody is going clean up the web sewers if they don't

$450 is pretty good. Are you still just using Adsense? You might want to try some other types of ad networks too.
