Re: My new business

I decided to decrease the price to $15 and add shipping charges, since it would effect people buying 3 bottles or more.

I would love to know what other people say about which normal olive oil brands are their favorites as well. I'm always looking for great oils that I haven't tried yet.

I personally prefer Gallo but esporao has a more refined taste .
Enjoy

Re: My new business

A few things on top of my head.

1. When I click on "Buy This" at the front page, it should lead me directly to the cart/checkout page. I already want to buy it, why I am being lead to the product page (http://www.platosoliveoil.com/products/svo)?

2. There's too many options on the product page. Have 3 options max and place the text in a table with a light background color on the text so people can see. Having less options also makes it easier for the user to make a decision. I don't know how many times I end up NOT buying something and close the browser because I can't choose among the choices even though I know I would instant buy it if there is only 1 or 2 choices.

3. The orange on the main page is too bright. Consider using a darker version of orange.

4. Have a picture of a famous chef / famous person using this type of olive oil.

5. Find a clip somewhere of a famous chef / famous person using this type of olive oil.

6. Change "Buy This" to "Add to Cart"

7. Remove "phone support coming soon." This sentence does way more harm to your company's image than help it.

8. Make the font bigger, especially in the footer.

9. Get a logo.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Re: My new business

Seems like my template shop is giving me issues with changing the front page "Buy This" link into a direct add to cart action. It is also being stubborn about actually changing font sizes when I change the style sheets. I'm going to look into hiring someone to fix the numerous issues that are coming up with the website.

Have you listed your item on Amazon? If you haven't I would do that ASAP and get anyone who's tried it write a review.

Re: My new business

I've been holding back on most online marketing because of the lack of photos issue, my photoshoot is tentatively scheduled for this Monday. I'll start the process of adding to amazon now though, I've been planning to do that.

Re: My new business

Just got a bottle of Dr. Nice's oil, only had the chance to use it on one dish, but I def like the results. Nice lil kick off the habanero but not overwhelming, and really good flavor addition to the broccoli and mushrooms that I used it on. Def looking forward to using this more, I think it will make an awesome brushcetta.

Re: My new business

Have you considered using http://www.squarespace.com/?

It's pretty cheap and would make the site look very professional

No I haven't considered them, I really like the way shopify works so I strongly favor Shopify. Since my plans aren't really revolving around internet expansion, I'm not going to worry about it at this time. I kind of like my website right now anyhow, and I'm ridiculously busy which makes focusing on my website very difficult to justify. When the business grows I will spend profits on a better website, I suppose, I just don't think dumping primary investment capital into it or spending more of my time on it is very wise.

The photo shoot was a blast though, and I might do a few more, mostly because it was a good time and the food is absolutely amazing. I already own all of the camera gear from one of my other companies which makes photo shoots easy to set up when I have free time. Also, having a chef come in and cook awesome food is a great way to host a party.
