Re: I'm a large online media buyer. AmaA
haha, I gotta unsubscribe lol, because I get distracted.
Both ways. You can find a good offer, and search for a traffic.
But if you just stumble upon some inventory, you can get creative and pair it with an offer.
People are usually surprised at when I tell them I'm working and I'm just browsing stuff and watching videos/reading forums. It's my job to know what's happening in the internetz. Half of the day, i'm just browsing. If I see something that I like and can utilize(not just placements), I bookmark it for future use.

I'm down for something like this. It's going to take a bit for me to get rolling as I like to be thorough and I'm a bankroll nit when I don't really know what I'm doing. I've been contacted by a Sitescout rep already but had I only signed up at this point to check out their inventory and tracking. I've checked out plentyoffish now and that looks interesting as well.
I guess it's going to go something like read Ca$hvertising ASAP, talk to Sitescout rep about suggestions/what's working where, choose something to promote, figure out details of demographic/placement/bids, make a bunch of ads, and begin testing. I'll probably choose something the first time around that can fit with POF as well and run them concurrently.
Is that roughly it? Are there any must-have tools that haven't been mentioned?
Thanks again for the detailed responses. I feel like I've learned an awful lot here.

Re: I'm a large online media buyer. AmaA
ballistic- my partner and I are starting a lead gen campaign next week on a local level, for a guy who does hypnosis for smoking cessation. He's in a major metropolitan city in the US, and charges $500 for one hour. He has a really great pre-qualification process, so he offers a full guarantee. His conversions are very high. He also has a $75 CD, but its buried deep deep on his site so no one even buys it. Once we get the local campaign up and running I was thinking of creating a separate landing page and a different funnel for this product. Do you think this would be a good candidate for media buys or PPV? Any thoughts on how much we should ask for as a commission, assuming we know what we're doing in setting up a good landing page with good copy? What kind of budget would we realistically need to test it? TIA

Re: I'm a large online media buyer. AmaA
i'll take up the suggestion to post updates -
i applied to join clickbooth's network as i read they're one of the bigger (better?) networks but i got declined. they had a link to apply for a re-review and this time i included some more info and tried to sell myself more thinking that might make me seem a better candidate but i still got declined a second time? i more or less said i didn't have any experience with affiliate marketing before to one of the prompts asking this (i didn't want to lie). could this be the reason why they declined me? they didn't say as much, but i suspect it might be? there weren't that many questions on the form to complete so i don't know what else it could be. they also asked me for my website (i assume for aff marketing) and i said none, which i wonder if they take as a negative?
their reason for declining was vague and just seemed to be a generic form email with a list of possible reasons (promotion methods do not compliment our offers, incomplete or missing info, duplicate info related to previous applicant). i don't think any of those applied to me, but there it is anyway, declined. is there something specific they look for before they approve? the email did say i could re-apply after 6 months but i don't know, seems like courtesy BS. site scout rep offered that it just might be because their quota of members or whatever is currently full and just try again later but i don't know about that either.
anyhow, i then signed up with EWA and am awaiting the next step for approval. should i be saying something specific to better get approved? should i apply to a bunch more networks now or just apply by 1 and 1? are they only looking for people who have had past affiliate marketing experience? or what? am i doing something wrong?

and a quick derail - how do i change my username? i wanted to make it "maybe so" with the space instead of how it reads now. the FAQ said something about "PM any serious requests to a red administrator". how does one do this?

If you're looking to get approved to networks quicker and with greater likelihood, try contacting their affiliate managers via Skype/AIM/Phone right after you apply. This seems to be regarded as a fairly acceptable practice that has worked for a lot of people.

Re: I'm a large online media buyer. AmaA
what are they looking for? just to make sure i'm not some kind of "fraudster" as ballistic mentioned earlier? i'm not even sure what that even means but i'm not trying to misrepresent myself or whatever.
so in any case, i was already declined by clickbooth (twice!) so i guess the bridge is burned there n i guess i just have to move on to others.
and i don't really use skype or aim but i guess i could make a phone call... but is that a good idea? is that really suggested? i thought that might be a little too pushy or invasive? (ie. hey, i just applied minutes ago, but can you review my app right now and talk to me?)

this.
When you apply, call them on the phone. That is the best practice.
I even bet that if you call CB, they will approve you.
It's not pushy, don't worry.
For EWA, contact Ryan Eagle via email/AIM. He will set you up. Just introduce yourself and say you are really looking forward to getting in the biz.
Also, as I said, don't apply for just one network and wait for the reply. Apply for at least 3-4.

If you get your demo right, it's a perfect much for both.
test budget - 1-2k to see how it is really going and adjust. Depends how fast you learn usually.

Re: I'm a large online media buyer. AmaA
Any advice for selling to an email list in the weight loss niche? What works best etc? Or is it just keep testing different things?

Try cross selling.
i.e. if you sold a diet pill, sell info products and vice versa.
Split your list into male/female.
To the male, you can market supplements and stuff like that
To the female, skincare works like a charm.
Find other relevant offers, that your demos will be interested in.
DO NOT let your list rot. As time goes by, people will forget who the hell you are and their interest will vanish, they will change emails, etc. Keep them updated, write(or outsource it) articles every week or so.
Make your emails short and interesting. I know that's too generic, but you should focus on that. Think of it 30 seconds to get them interested and transfer them to a landing page.
You can't embed videos in email, but if you have a video, you can make a screen capture of the video player and put the picture in the letter, when they click to play it, they will go to the landing page.
Make your emails mobile friendly. That is VERY important.
test everything and adjust accordingly.
and yeah, basically that is it. Sorry, but I can't really give you a lot of tips.
a somewhat decent blog on the topic is http://www.b2bemailmarketing.com/ . I've learnt a lot from it.

thanks for the advice bud
do you think soft selling works better than hard selling. Like just adding small paragrpah to "products you might be interested in" at the end of an email works better?

If you are a buyer, you can bid $1 for 1,000 impression on certain site, but those thousand impressions will be only age >30, female, living in Wisconsin. So you will pay $1 when you get those exact thousand impressions, not impressions from men or kids.

Are you struggling with your cashflow? If he click yes - I sell to a payday loan company. That sells around $20. Or I send him an email with a payday offer. It consists of a A LOT of fields. bank account numbers, ss# and stuff like that. It is basically an application form for a payday loan. That costs around $100-$150.
Do you own a car? If he clicks yes - i sell the lead to autoinsurance company - around $8.
Are you interested in refinancing/mortgage - you get the procedure.
If he has more than $35,000 income, a box that says "are you interested in investing" appears. If he click yes I sell his information to invenstment banks/wealth management companies. That varies. Depending on his net worth it could go from $100 to $2,000.
You can apply similar procedure to every niche.

Yeah, that’s tough. Alternatively, there are still plenty of direct mail firms out there who understand direct response and have large, warm clientele of doctors, lawyers and stuff.
