Re: Growing a Youtube Channel

Hey Brons, congrats on your success. How did you manage to grow your channel up to a point that you can now monetize it?

Re: Growing a Youtube Channel

Nothing special, really. My channel is related to video gaming and I had a lot of fun making video's. I've done no promoting at all and I think that most if not all of my subscribers came from searches and related video's. Besides, I only get a few k views a day (more if I upload new video's) and if we believe that $2.50 CPM number quoted itt it won't beat a regular job.

The biggest advantage I get from my channel is the fact that I get free games from a couple of publishers because they like the free publicity. And usually I get the games a few days before the official release which gives me a huge advantage over the 'competition'.

If you get 3000 subs in 2 days, do you think they won't figure it out?

Re: Growing a Youtube Channel

im sure they could figure out everything but at what point do they care to?

3k in 2 days looks bad, what about 3k over a couple months etc

Re: Growing a Youtube Channel

Will those bought subscribers actually watch your video's? With a few hundred real subscribers you will make no money at all.

Youtube has been getting on my nerves lately. The approval process for accepting video's for monetization is seemingly completely random. Some video's have been denied because they're unfriendly to advertisers or because they say I don't have the rights to monetize them (but I do and I told them, but they want agreements send to their HQ on paper which is going to take me several weeks to arrange). While similar video's get approved for monetization. Their internal consistency sucks.

Re: Growing a Youtube Channel

nope dont think so but i can pay for some views on top so it looks less fishy at first. Just looking for the quickest and easiest way to be able to partner, not worth spending too much time making vids without it.

hmmmm that request for each vid sounds annoying, i mean cool for getting something dont get me wrong Why would they do that and not give you partner have you asked? Do some of your videos have copyrighted stuff?

also have you applied for partner?

Re: Growing a Youtube Channel

I heard on the TWIT podcast through Kevin Rose that apparently Epic Meal Time is making a TON of money; Kevin knows this because revision 3 is in charge of their sales and finding advertisers.

One thing I've learned, is that a "ton" of money in the youtube world, and a "ton" of money in the poker world, are two different things.

Care to clarify a range for what a "ton" would be in this instance? (best guess would be cool)

Re: Growing a Youtube Channel

They wouldn't say how much they made. But most likely their big paycheques didn't come from youtube themselves but rather from all of their merch + affiliate marketing + their live road tours. Youtube is their medium.

Re: Growing a Youtube Channel

Anyone used a buying subscription service before? And did it work as advertised? (anyone you might recommend?)

Re: Growing a Youtube Channel

Another random thing I wanted to add to this thread. I technically owned a lot of channels (or portions of a lot) and was taking the shotgun approach to this youtube thing.

One of the dormant channels just got partner status, without us even applying. No idea why, because it doesn't have the typical amount of subs/views....just thought that was interesting.
