Maybe you just haven't thought long or hard enough about it then because answering this question is the central theme of post enlightenment european thought and the backbone of new deal era politics.
If you consider any form of a social safety net to be immoral there're deeper problems in your thinking than your questionable understanding of policy and economics.
That results mostly turn out how they should doesn't really offer any solace to the people who're getting repeatedly boned by life.
I mean I guess on some level if you recruit a guy into the military and they return with PTSD and a missing limb, if there was nothing in the contract requiring the state to foot the medical bills we should just let them crumble to pieces, right? Shoulda read the fine print bro!
Let's ignore the fact that the military makes a concerted effort to prey on people too young and naive to understand the implication of their choices. Medical insurance is for people who make GOOD decisions. Sorry.
