There are plenty of smart people on 2+2... mathematicians, accountants, engineers, why dont we come up with a million dollar idea and actually work on it

My background is in marketing.

a few of my million dollar ideas are

1. a serving tray that locks glasses into place
2. a yellow hologram (similar to one on tv) that can actually be seen while on the field by football players
3. a sock that can keep you feet cool and airy
4. a website where fat people meet/date/talk/discuss weight loss

Grunch #1: There are no million dollar ideas.

Grunch #2: I'd put my net worth on the line that #4 already exists (not to mention #3 probably does as well, possibly #1 and I'm pretty sure #2 is possible and there are reasons they don't use it).

Sadly, I doubt this.

Heh. I was about to reply and thought the same. I'll probably do it anyway.

OP,

I'm not sure if number 1 exists but as a bartender/server I'm almost certain it wouldn't do very well (not to mention would be easy to duplicate). The only way to secure the glasses in decent fashion would be by the base and unfortunately the sizes and styles of the bases range to widely to make a carry all practical.

Furthermore there is almost never an occurrence where the glasses being held to the tray would prevent a spill. Most dropped trays are a result of a collision rather than a glass sliding around on the tray. Even still they are pretty rare among competent employees (yes I realize these are rare).

I'm not really a sports fan so I'm not sure I can offer input. What benefit would this be?

There are many companies that make quick wicking socks (as well as every other type of garment). While I have seen heated socks I've yet to see air conditioned socks but they would be prohibitively expensive for a relatively small problem. The synthetic socks do a great job as it.

I'm 100 percent certain number 4 exists in many forms. Hell, 2p2 even has it's own versions in the form of the H&F forum and a few threads in OOT.

That isn't to say there may not be some money in some of the ideas but I wouldn't call any of them slam dunk money makers.

a similar Idea to #1 was on Shark tank. The glasses were not locked into place, but the trays were not just flat, they were like a microwave cover. (a flat try on top with a rim of about 5" and a slot in the side and handle underneath.) They tried to sell the advertising space on the 5" edge of the tray.

NO SOUP for YOU!

Ideas are one thing. Having the capital and the people in place to execute is the hard part.

1) Far too many chiefs not enough indians.
2) Execution matters far more than any idea. There are no million dollar ideas. There are .01 ideas with 999,999.99 executions though.
3) The smart people on this forum are ****ing busy already. (Except me I'm just lazy)

The trays that are in use now with rubber bottoms are so much better than this idea. Even if you can lock glasses into place you will still spill the contents, especially because this is mostly applicable to drinks such as martinis.
