Can't find a job!!!!
Kinda the wrong forum for this question, but I am REALLY struggling to find work. I have a B.S. in math from a pretty good school (Berkeley) but I cannot find any kind of work. I'm talking even $15/hr type. Maybe it's time to create my own job by investing or whatever but the market isn't exactly a cinch these days either lol.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions, legal preferred?
Thanks

Re: Can't find a job!!!!
You probably have leaks in how you present yourself, ie cover letter, resume, how you interview, etc.
Either that or you haven't applied enough places. Details on how many/ what types of jobs you've applied for and what is the closest you've been to getting hired.

Re: Can't find a job!!!!
In order to help you even further you may want to tell BFI a little more about yourself (i.e. where you live, what methods are you using to find jobs, post your resume, what you are willing to do etc.)
I mean I have bunch of friends who deal cards in Vegas making $15 + an hour and the jobs are endless.
The main thing is:
-Dont get discouraged and work very hard at finding a job everyday
-Hire a coach who knows what they are doing
-Constantly look to improve and never look at any job interview/opportunity even remotely close to what you are interested in as a wasted opportunity
-Leverage every single resource and connection that you have
-Look into working on Freelance jobs in the interim
-Work towards obtaining a new skill set/honor/degree/award etc.

Re: Can't find a job!!!!
Just a bit of advice, if you want to work the low wage jobs (10-15 dollars an hour) the first thing you need is enthusiasm, pretend like you actually give a sh£t about cleaning or serving customers or stocking shelves or whatever. Second, don't emphasis that you have a degree, a lot of the high turnover low wage employers don't care/would be scared of over-qualified employees leaving when they don't want them to. I would emphasis the aspects of your degree and any part time work/extra-curricular activities with relevance to the job 'this assignment required us to work as a team and I learned the true value of team work' blah, IE, cutting and pasting bits and pieces to show that you have the 'transferrable' skills required.
Other than that it's persistence, explore every avenue, jump at every oppurtunity, unpaid internships and volunteer work may be necessary.
Either way, good luck man.

Re: Can't find a job!!!!
You can apply to oil, mining, tech, energy, and finance companies and activist investors. Apply in areas of your hobbies and interests. Government. Maybe become a teacher. Look international. Saw a guy with a hat at the poker table with Certified Sunpower installer and he said he was busy.
If not go to grad school take out a large loan and take a light load, apply while you are in school and leave school if you get an offer.

Re: Can't find a job!!!!
If you need a quick job try looking on Craigslist. Employers are usually more responsive on there.

the first question that no one has asked is "what is your gpa"
or better yet. "what is your work experience"

Meh no one looks at gpas. If he had worn experience he wouldn't be posting this in the first place IMO.

Re: Can't find a job!!!!
There must be an issue somewhere. Resume or interview leak.
I've seen resumes that made me literally laugh after people complained to me that they couldn't get any responses. Then I've had people go over what happened in their interviews when they never got an offer and laughed at them.
Some people are naturally good at interviews because of their interpersonal skills mixed with their creative lying. Sometimes you just get a question that you weren't prepared for and people handle it differently. I work with a guy who said to me once that once he gets the interview, there is simply no way he doesn't get an offer because he's so good at it. He landed an offer with Goldman for like 130k in NYC coming right out of college, and I know his interview where we work now was a slam dunk too.
So if you really have a decent degree from a decent school, there must be a leak somewhere that you aren't seeing.

Re: Can't find a job!!!!
Tutor via organizations like SAT preps or just by yourself via craigslist
Apply to a temp agency
There are opportunities out there.

Re: Can't find a job!!!!
Did SAT prep for $18/hr. Had to have 700+ in a section though. Do you qualify?
Now that I think about it, you could definitely build a client base with a math degree from Berkeley. Parents are very willing to invest a lot in their child's future.
