That's a long term endeavor. There's a popular micro brew outside of my town that has finally starting turning a profit after four or so years.

I'd have to agee with the breakfast place, Im sure it would do great business. It has low start up costs and VERY high profits.

retirement village ldo

but seriously, whats the population roughly?

i think a coffee store or fast food joint close to the campus will do well, or what about a alcohol store?

this sounds kinda cool. i don't think any of these exist around here, or maybe i just don't know about them.

to steak, the population here is pretty high. i don't know the exact number but i've heard it's the most populated town per square mile in anywhere in the US. i guess that's saying enough.

This. I can't get away from using it for what failed before it, a sandwich shop

I know nothing about the college but if it is NOT a commuter college, I would focus on lunch and late night. In a college town where kids live on and around campus, having some kind of social sandwich place they can go to after last call would potentially be worthwhile.. and lunch is lunch.

I go to UCSB as well. We don't have a decent sports bar in all of IV or Goleta. I hate having to go downtown just to watch a sports game.

A lot of the suggestions are impossible. (Chipotle/InNOut)

That is what spawned the "lulz" fest from me.

Breakfast served all day cheap w/o the wifi. That would be Waffle House. Very popular in the south.

Haven't seen too many out west.

Ok, on the serious side... we had a competition in an Entrepreneurship class I took, and the two most popular ideas were:

1) Keg delivery service
2) Breakfast Buffet Place

Breakfast buffet place would definitely have higher margins, and the start up costs would be dirt cheap. Hungover college kids are looking for a lot of food cheap. Throw out nasty eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, sausage, and give them oj and milk for one single price and you have a goldmine. No waitresses, just bus boys, cooks, and someone to collect the money.

Open it up from like 10pm-3am and then again from like 8am-2pm.

The keg delivery service was popular but start up costs were hard. Not a lot of college kids have cars and people with fake ids will probably use this service alot. Also, charge a premium on same day service and/or delivery after a certain time.

Offer a pick up service the next day to give them their deposit back. This could honestly be a 2 man operation with 1 truck. Free Advertising around campus on telephone polls, cars, billboards, etc.

With DUI's becoming such an issue these days people are looking more for transportation. A type of party bus would probably work well. Something that fits around 15 people and maybe have a keg on board. So they get to ride and drink for a price. Not sure what you would need to charge but I would think $300-$400 for like a 9pm-2:30am type thing wouldn't be too hard to fill at all. maybe have like a dance pole in the center for good measure.

People are always having birthdays in college towns and that would be an excellent way to get your crew around safe. Maybe even market to the students parents somehow like during orientation that it would be the perfect Bday Gift. Actually I guess new students wouldn't be your market but I think it's possible to get a list of birthdays for kids turning 21. Anway.. there's a lot of details that could be possible like a 12pm-2am shift for just birthday kids (prolly get $200).. just use your imagination.

instead of doing breakfast delivery in college markets, why not expand to restaurant delivery in general and bring all the places that do not deliver to students at all hours of the day.
