obv can't speak for everyone, but i stopped using the core wallet in 2013 for a couple reasons. i didnt feel i needed to store the full blockchain anymore - it wasn't necessary imo. Sync time for spv clients was much faster unless you ran it fulltime. Core wallet was also behind on HD addresses so other options could provide some peace of mind with the use of seed words as a safe and easy backup method. Core may have improved in some regards, but other wallets have much better UI/UX and are fine, if not safer.

these days i run a bitcoin unlimited client full client for fun but dont store funds in it. Rather, i use multibit and mycelium for everyday stuff and trezors for cold storage. i feel safe and have fast access to transfers.

You can add "prune=1000" to your bitcoin.conf file where 1000 is how many MB of the blockchain you want to store (1000 = 1GB).

Anyone ever bump the old price predictions from itt? Be cool to see from a few years back to where we're at now.

I seem to recall almost nobody predicting this price point. It was either super low/busto, or quite a bit higher. Flat to modestly lower wasn't really in there.

So a crowd sourced average FTW? Pretty standard.

I have not traded any BTC since before Mt. Gox went down.

1. I recently bought a $100 worth of BTC as a test trade on Coinbase. Their fees are high and the wait period was lame but the app seems clean and works smoothly.

Just went to make a larger purchase and am told that this would exceed my $50 / week limit. WTF? I just bought $100 (a week or two ago). Does anyone know what happened here. My account is verified.

2. In response to this I logged into to my Kraken account and remembered that I never verified it because when last I looked they were not doing business in my state.

Can someone tell me, does Kraken support tier 2 or tier 3 accounts in the states?

3. The above are the exchanges that I have limited experience with. Perhaps they are poor choices? Can someone recommend anything better for someone living in the states?

Thanks everyone, what I have found online so far is rather dated.

try circle. i opened an account with them a couple days ago to try it, since that's what i've been hearing. linked debit card. bought $300 since that was limit. i put my social. and now i have $3000 limit. that all happened within 10 minutes of me opening an account.

no fees. but they did use a rate that was about $6 higher than bitstamp at the time i bought.

1. coinbase and circle aren't my first recommendations for larger amounts. but my latest experience is they allowed my friend to auto-buy and auto-withdraw $200 per week recurring from sept-14 to nov-15. ~29 coins for ~10k
2. kraken supports the upper tiers in some states https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/...ication-Tiers-
3. Gemini, itBit, Kraken. all ok imo.

I did pretty well back in 2012. See my post #2301

"(800 billion us dollars * .01) / 21 million bitcoins = $380 US per one bitcoin

They currently trade at about $7 per bitcoin.

Could be a good speculative investment. "

FWIW, now I'm estimating Bitcoin to get to $917 in the next four months. GL to all.

I have Kraken Tier 3 in the US and Coinbase. Poloniex seems to be another decent exchange. Not sure what's going on with your Coinbase.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Oddly, Coinbase seemed to accept my larger transaction when I initiated it through the web. But the mobile app randomly (it seems) set my limit after buying $100 at once to $50 / week (which is a joke).

I turns out that Kraken may well be the way to go. But, for anyone wondering, you have to fund your account with a bank wire. No ACH.

I agree, it makes no sense. The bastards just replied to email with some default limits are this because of account verification that.

it was like they didn't even read my email. My point was clear, how was i just able to buy $100 worth at once and now have my limit set to $50 / week? It is not like I unverified my account or something.

stupid.

some of bitcoin's greatest asset are its immutability and hardcap.

e.g. everyone knows how rare each bitcoin/bit/mbit are. everyone knows that there is only 1 agent who controls your bitcoin-- yourself.

bank coin, fed coin, imf coin, private coin wont have those features. that's not to say that neither wont be massively adopted by the public.

What do you think will be the driving force to pop it up 50% in 4 months?

Based on my simple math model, bitcoin's price looks undervalued relative to the worldwide dollar supply. On top of that its supply is relatively limited, some technical issues with it were fixed over the summer, and there loads of investment money out there looking for some new place to put money besides stocks, bonds, or gold. Just my opinion.

It really depends on your country / possibilities / technical-knowledge. Easiest:

- If you have some poker balance, you could easily trade in the P2P trade thread on this forum. I made plenty of Pokerstars <> BTC transactions, even some here. Premium can be high and scams do happen though. As alternative there are sites like localbitcoins.

- From US, probably Coinbase / Circle is easiest. They have some strange limits sometimes and can be actively against gambling/poker too - but should be normally easy.

- From EU, I think any exchange that allows SEPA transfers can be pretty easy. Kraken and Bitstamp are probably the biggest for that.

- Other countries, most countries have their own (small) exchanges. Most times these are the easiest way (not always cheapest) to exchange bitcoin.

- ATMs, although not online, should be easy too. Just expect huge fees, potential waiting times, potential ID scanning etc. https://coinatmradar.com/

meeting and transacting in a major bank. and i'm not paying first before confirmed btc received.

just deciding how many confirmations that is. 6, could take a long time.

about the stolen btc remark, does this affect me?

you don't have to wait 6. but think about it like this. if someone has 10% of the total hash rate, they have a 10% chance to reverse one block, 1% to reverse two blocks, etc... waiting at least 1 block is probably going to be ok. it depends how safe you want to be. 6 is 99.999% 'safe'

Nobody is meeting you at a bank to sell you BTC cheap.. trust me this never goes down. If anything they are going to kick your ass and rob you after you leave the bank after they didn't show up.
