Haven't been around my desk most of the day, what caused SNAP to rip today after yesterday's after the bell news in regards to their ad sales being discounted.

Contemplating a little ALXN while it's still dropping.

Life beat:

Held a pretty volatile position overnight on Friday thinking I could close it today. Forgot it's a holiday. FORGOT it's a goddamn holiday! Now i'm going rafting in Utah with no access to the internet, and I guess my position is staying open til Friday when I get back.

See you all next week. my god.

The internet has been available in Utah since 2006

Use a sell stop order, not a stop limit order at your stop loss price. If its a liquid stock. You dont want to have a stop limit order and it just blow past you limit price and you never get filled.

Anyone with an opinion on Nintendo? Nintendo switch seems to be very popular and is back ordered yet not that many people have even heard about it yet it.

Has anyone looked at BlackBerry (BBRY) and their decision to go full security (software, OS and consulting) software instead of keeping their manufacturing wing?

There is a big market for security but don't think they have a great edge compared to other in the field. What do you all think?

Probably more of a value investing thread type of question.

KORS such a textbook example of mismanagement of a "luxury" brand. Wonder where it goes from here.

GBTC surprised me today. I think its actually going to run again and test the highs. Just from looking at the sell volume on its negative day the other day vs the big days prior there were so few sellers on that dip. Looks like consolidation. Thats the thing about bubbles. Never know when they will pop.

Why do you say that? They've pretty successfully milked the "luxury" brand status selling crappy product for high prices to the masses for many years now. That kind of thing doesn't normally last very long but they've done pretty well with it.

Nice AH movement on PANW. This should squeeze nicely in the morning.

As they move to close a pile of locations now, one has to wonder if the right move was really make it the "affordable" luxury brand. I find they went too far in that direction, effectively poisoning their own brand. Nobody cares about the MK on a bag now, means nothing. It used to.
06-01-2017 , 07:53 AM
How do you grow in a crowded luxury market without selling to the masses?

I'm not sure if it's mismanagement so much as faddishness waning that is making MK decline. I mean, Armani did the same thing with the clown-level "Armani Exchange", which has forever tainted the brand and made it somewhat comical. Yet they're still doing ok.

MK execs have admitted numerous times in the past that they regret the department store couponing and some of the other tactics they used to try and boost profits. They're still paying for those mistakes today as it only took a few years for them to seriously hurt their rep.
06-01-2017 , 08:40 AM
Without those things, would they have grown profit and revenue so much?
06-01-2017 , 09:07 AM
How do you assess what their 'rep' is?
