Big spike today. Locked some in.

RAD had a nice bounce today, bought some more. Fully locked and loaded with my position now. I think it's fairly likely that within a month or so some activist hedge fund is going to announce a huge position in RAD and start demanding board seats, which could provide a nice catalyst to the upside.

Either way, if you factor in the sum of the parts valuation + potential operational improvements, it's a good buy at these prices IMO.

How long do you normally hang onto trades? do you set sell points or have a general time period or what?

I mean it is a bit of a mess but my argument is based on the 12 pe ratio for a $145B company that pays a 4% dividend and has a history of increasing that number. They are also working in tech that isn't really in any danger of being obsolete. Maybe this isn't enough but that's why we ask questions isn't it?

why has vix been so low this summer?

Because actual volatility is so low. Relatively the VIX is probably expensive. If you think its too low buy options.

I was going to ask something similar, asking why volatility is so low.

My main guess is due to the everlasting low interest-rates set by the FED since the financial crisis. Yes, rates have been raised by tiny fractions, and may go up another tiny fraction later in the year, but it's still miniscule relative to historical levels. Yield-seeking investors have no other choice but to park their money in stocks, so the bubble just keeps on ballooning.

Another factor would be due to HFT. Robots trading all day, gobbling up any tiny edge in the market as well as serving as market makers where they start buying any small dips to avoid mass sell-offs that would spark a recession.

But these are just guesses, would be curious to hear from more experienced traders.

A low VIX isn't a new thing, see 2004-2007. This stuff happens when the market is in grind higher mode as a 10 point move in the spooz gets smaller and smaller from a percentage point of view.

Oh and market sell off don't cause recessions. You're not one of those guys that thinks the financial crisis was caused by Lehman going busto... right?

ATM puts and calls are right at 20-day historical vol.

Careful if you trade VIX options, they don't work the same way as normal options. I'm sure half this thread is aware of that, but I've seen enough people over the years fall for certain VIX traps.

There is a lot of chatter about e-sports taking off, and I was wondering what your thoughts are and possible trade ideas in this sector.

I am typing this just as an idea and about to dig into research a little deeper, but thought I got get some input to assist while I research.

Just to follow up to my previous post... since I already hold and trade NVDA this is one stock that has a stake in esports market. EA, TCEHY, TTWO, and NTES are the other ones Im currently looking at and researching.
