Missing a little bit of turn card here?

Jeremy Ausmus Doubles Through Ludovic Geilich

Jeremy Ausmus is up to around 107,000 chips after running fives on the turn and river gave him a double up through Ludovic Geilich.

On a JQ5 board, Ausmus checks in the small blind and Geilich fires out 9,500. Ausmus calls and the river falls 5. Ausmus checks and Geiliech bets 30,000, enough to put Ausmus all in.

Ausmus snap calls and flips the 85 for trip fives. Geilich shows the A8.

Jeremy Ausmus - 107,000
Ludovic Geilich - 330,000

I was curious to see who is on the team, but I don't see any author attribution on the live updates. I guess one positive of that is that if someone screws up a hand, it will be Seth Palansky getting hassled on Twitter. He always handles criticism gracefully.
Very poor. No background on players, no interviews, no puns, even the choice of hands being reported is worse and obviously far less hands are being reported than when it was covered by pokernews.

Is this what coverage normally looks like? I don't really get it.

From a poker perspective, it could be an interesting hand if we knew, say, action on previous streets. And from an entertainment perspective, isn't there usually some interesting color to add? Did Phil say anything while tanking? Did either player look uncomfortable? Gestures? Nothing?
I thought you were being sarcastic? This is what their updates are going to be? One step forward and 3 steps back. Is Zuffa running the show? lol

so much this

Would love to hear any juicy behind the scenes info on how / why they decided on this. Guess Tony G (pokernews owner) while negotiating with WSOP played it like a set, but didn't hit the 9 on the river this time. woops. GG. Thanks or playing.

Anyone have first hand details and care to share ?

one more thing...

Sarah, will you please just walk around and do interviews on your own via your phone and post somewhere? Please?

To be fair the coverage last year pooped the bed. I couldn't watch it after the first week, the girls on the floor were mostly dreadful.

I miss the old coverage and dont really mind that WSOP put a bullet in it.

So Pokernews was getting paid every time they posted "so and so was eliminated in the 35th place in unknown action"?....

my bad, totally grunched thread before then made dumb posts which I would delete if I could. just went back an scanned thread.

meh. just simple business decision. WSOP prob saves money and drives all traffic to their landing page vs sending to large (largest ?) poker affiliate.

I was used to PN updates and will miss them, bit I'm guessing current live updates will improve over the summer

also PN is still there covering event sans the updates. Srsly ? are you at WSOP doing interviews this year? if so for who?

as far as below, remko does great job, but doesn't look as good in a dress and he has pointy elbows.

They bring in traffic. Traffic equates to ad revenue, which they shared with the WSOP.

Caesars is bankrupt, so they wanted to show more revenue, and wanted to pay PokerNews about 1/2 of what they did in previous years. So technically both posts were true on the matter; PokerNews wanted twice as much, even though it is disingenuous spin to say that. PokerNews barely broke even at the old rate, it was a loss leader for them. Reporters and staff don't work for free. Pokernews was basically an affiliate for the WSOP as well as a licensee. It was a mutual arrangement, and not vanity press.

The WSOP now is doing it by themselves, but they are very incompetent and don't want to outlay the money it takes to do right.

To those who said PokerStars would do a better job, that's probably untrue. Their Macau room was run worse than the Rio, so it's an uphill battle. The only hope we have is that the current TD and management get fired in the post bankruptcy shakeup, or the WSOP is bought out by someone else.

Srsly,

Wow, that sucks. I quite like your interviews, especially when you interview Doug Lee.

That sucks, hope you are on to much better things because your interviews were by far some of the best. You got people to say really interesting and informative things you don't normally see in poker interviews anywhere else. They were very insightful. Will be missed.

I'm quite disheartened to learn that pokernews are not covering WSOP anymore, as been a great 'hobby' for many years and recently in the mornings going to work reading the updates.. Deep sigh, but at the same time thank you PN for years worth of good work. Maybe next year again!

WSOP.com is your only option. Nobody else is allowed to do live updates. PokerNews was granted that right exclusively the past few years.

PokerNews also to had the exclusive right to shoot interview videos on the tournament floor. Now it looks like they've been relegated to doing it in the sectioned off media room. That makes it an enormous pain (and sometimes impossible) to talk to anyone playing in the Pavilion and Brasilia rooms.

Sometimes I think the WSOP considers press coverage to be more of a nuisance than a benefit.

Thanks guys. I'm doing just fine, as it was my choice to move on. I'm still a fan and keep tabs on what's going on in poker.

Interesting read on some of the challenges with live poker coverage, from someone who's been doing it for a while. Hint: The writer's name is The Chip Bitch so he might know something about counting chips.
