Spade Re: WSOP to attempt tracking every player in bracelet events

Well I say good for WSOP to try something new. If it does just half what they say it will make it better for players and fans too.
I am in the logistics business and we see RFID stuff all the time.
The one guy had it half right but the readers that will read a big stack of tightly packed things costs more than 1k each and they would need one for every player so a 3500 player event would cost 3 and a half mil just for the hardware, and how would they wire it all up anyway?
I like the concept -I love the fact they are trying

Then various wires, power supply, pcb's and actual fitting, to end up close to $2000.

...
Also: 400+ electrical runs to the tables for the power supplies.

$$$$$ and a logistical nightmare.

Yes and this.

Its totally doable, if you had a bottomless pit of money, all the time in the world and the patience of a saint, and I really think that one day it will happen. But not anytime soon.

Re: WSOP to attempt tracking every player in bracelet events

does anyone know the answer to my earlier question? are all the wsop chips the same? could someone play a 1k and swipe 5 1k chips, then play the 10k and bring them back into play? Obv not at the start of the day, but maybe in transit or at the bagging up stage?

Every year players complain of how incompetent the dealers are and this will only make things worse, whats the upside? knowing seat #2 has 27K chips instead of 26.5K? That a table has an open seat? Maybe there is more upside I just don't see it.

I like this...just curious to see if they can get it to work with any accuracy.

The biggest thing I could see this providing is a way for backers/or ppl who have pieces who aren't in Vegas during the WSOP to make sure everything is on the up and up.

Or really, really go all the way and dump cards altogether.

A completely electronic card and chip system would be far less expensive than RFID chips, cards, and tables. A table with nine tablet-style computers, a network, software similar to any of the online sites but set up to log players in at physical table locations, and you could have a live version of an online tournament with every player poking away at their screen, able to see who they're up against in person. Casinos (and probably some players) would love it because it would eliminate the need for actual dealers. I wouldn't place bets against someone already working on it. There's already completely-automated individual tables, and certainly the software to run a tournament with thousands of entries already exists.

yes, it is possible and I am sure it is happening. but the value of doing that is somewhat questionable, sometimes the "cheater" ends up hurting himself. it would be most valueable to chip up your smallstack, but obviously that is the situation people are most likely to notice

The chip tracking system would make that a bit more difficult to carry off, potentially. If overall table counts are made and collated with bust-outs and moves, missing or extra chips would show up in the totals. Wouldnt be able to track it to an individual player the way you would with RFID chips, but per-table counts would be off.

I think the only extra work the dealers have to do is to make the chip estimates at the breaks. They press a button to check new players in at seats instead of marking them on a sheet. They press another button when someone busts out or to call the floor. And that's pretty much it according to the instructions.

Decisions about moving players are still handled by other staff, with info about players moved to the table pushed to the mobile unit over the network.

All the bracelet events use the same chips. The sats, sngs and daily tourneys use different chips.

How is it anybody's business.
