The WSOP obviously holds its own special place in poker lore, but a big part of its appeal (come play MTTs that you can't find any where else or any other time of the year) is gone.
This is probably a fair point. Coincides with Vegas gambling revenue being down due to further legalization of gambling in states. I'd like to know exactly how much the traveling circuit has grown in recent years. WSOPC and WPT, the two main ones have been around for a while. Not sure how old MSPT or HPT are

This!

For Europeans it particularly holds true. Right now there is PartyMillions in Rozvadov. In years past the Collossus might have been a huge attraction for a lot of europeans, but why spend way more money on a Vegas trip when they can play a big 1k euro event with way lower traveling expenses.

When you consider the fact that online poker is struggling big time and the fact that the supply of live festivals is way bigger now compared to ten years ago, I actually find it quite telling and strong that WSOP numbers seem to be rather stable

Today is the start of the Colossus. I think this is the first true temperature reading for poker. How many Joe Pokers will show up this year?

2016: 21,613
2015: 22,374
Numbers seem to be well within the range of past years. Add to that its still early. Lets wait and see untill we are deeper in the series.

Poker is dead.

In years gone by, if Daniel Negreanu made a final table, there would be reams of post spilling off the teleprinter onto the pages of 2+2.

Nowadays, a handful of post mentioning Negreanu at a final table and his quest for a 7th WSOP bracelet.

Poker is so dead !

I don't understand this sentiment. A random day two of the main event is going to feature one big name pro and 8 randoms (or maybe two medium name pros and 7 randoms) and the quality of play will be the same or less than a random 2/5 NL cash game you can view on live at the bike or equivalent three days a week. For free.

The 10k final tables they are no longer going to cover are from events that routinely get star studded final tables with some of the best in the world. Not to mention it's the final table where the bustouts actually matter and the payouts are not insignificant. Compared to again a day two of the main where thousands will bust unceremoniously and there is like a 0.1% chance that any player ever shown on the feature table actually makes the final table.

These massive buy in events can only go on so long. The vast majority won't cash and probably won't cash in more than a couple thus burning money and losing backing/interest. Also, less and less dead money entering them because of the swapping/staking/collusion which was front and center in the SHRB.

This. The stream should just have no schedule but stream almost every day and do whatever looks good.

This is all true. However I will say that sometimes final table action is not always the best in terms of play, especially in the tournaments where they are not very deep come final table time. There were several 2016 final table streams that were nothing put pushfests. It will be interesting to see early stages of the main event and see play when the stacks are very very deep

While the free final table streams on WSOP.com have been awesome the past few years, streaming every day of the main event this year is something I'm really looking forward to.
+1

I'm watching the stream of the One Drop and the quality of the production is much better than streams of the past but I prefer Tuch+guest over Lon/Norm as announcers

I think its worth withholding judgement until the WSOP ends to see how this new arrangement works out. So far, I'm pretty pleased (although I do wish they could have streamed the final table of the tag team event and hope they'll get to the point where they can adjust on the fly if an event not scheduled for a stream ends up having a slew of marquee players)

About 5 years ago, WSOP was streaming every final table of nearly every circuit events for free on their website.

How times have changed.

The concept of PokerGo actually shuts new players out of poker.

For example, a friend of mine was on a final table stream once upon a time. Atleast 50-60 friends and family tuned in to watch him take 5th.

When he got back from vegas, all of the sudden, people wanted to start doing Tuesday night poker games.

Would those same 50-60 people pay for a subscription? I would guess that a majority wouldn't pay.

I get it, they gotta make their $ but they could have devised a better way of doing it. I think most players see this as a step in the wrong direction. Jm2c

So all the people crying about Schulman... how do you feel about Lon and Norm's hand analysis??

BTW still really bizarre that WSOP does not show stack sizes during the hand

They do show stack size on the left above the hands. And they show previous action.

You need new friends if they won't even pay $10 to watch you go for life changing money .. and they surely won't start Tuesday night poker games anyway.

FWIW, I love the One Drop stream. If the content continues being of that quality then $10 is a steal. The real test for PokerGo will be after the WSOP.
