What about the guy who repeated the Nov Nine a few years back? If I recall his second 9th place finish was peculiar.

Ruane has been playing great but also running good, sweating those two big all ins. Interesting to see if he wins another flip tm.

http://www.smalltalkdan.com/2013/01/...heart-and.html

2004 - Matt Dean (Final Table blow-up, 2nd to 7th)

2005 - Everyone talks about Andy Black, but from what was televised, he continued to play aggro and got on the wrong side of some spots. The real blow-up is Scott Lazar calling an all-in for a lot of chips with QT. "YOU WANT A GAMBLE, I'LL GIVE YOU A GAMBLE. I CALL........Oh."

2006 - Not outrageous, but William Thorson had TONS of chips on the final two tables and finished 13th when he didn't realise Jamie Gold ran like God.

2007 - This could be the biggest blow-up, considering the spot this man was in. Chip leader going of the WSOP Main. Ninth. Ninth.

Honourable mention to Scotty Nguyen, who got tilted by Hilm. Hilm learnt from the best!

https://www.pokertube.com/video/scot...owup-wsop-2007

2008 - Brandon Cantu blew-up a big stack with an amazing misunderstanding of basic pot odds.

Honourable mention to Scott Montgomery, who tried and failed to run the worst bluff ever for a huge blow-up, but got saved by the river.

2009 - Ladies and Gentleman, Mr Billy Kopp. BTW, Darvin Moon's call here is crazy too -

I have to give a mention to Darvin here. The guy tried his best to blow-up, but the deck wouldn't let him. There's a hand against Begleiter which is literally the worst ever played at the Main Event final table, couldn't find it though. Here's his TIMBERRRRRR moment:

2010: "The other door was open" - Norman Chad's funniest line ever, Pascal Le Francois picking the wrong spot against Cheong.

Can't find the hand video but the aftermath is here in this Norman Chad compilation at 12min

2011: John Hewitt on the pre-final final-table to go out in 10th. He made two or three super super marginal calls when he shouldn't have, tried to dismiss it as standard.

2012: This is the best played hand on here; I like Abrams move, but it's a huge amount of chips getting in the pot to finish 12th when he could have folded to the FT.

2013: Anton Morgenstern from chiplead to out in 10 minutes

Morgenstern ended up overshadowing James Alexander, who finished in 19th, but he's well worth watching on the coverage. There's not a single hand that sums it up well, but he was 2nd out of 22 and finished 19th, and unlike Morgenstern (who is a good player), he just seemed to go all Scott Lazar ("YOU WANT A GAMBLE").

2014: Tom Sarra Jr. He had FIFTY BIG BLINDS here with 15 left. https://lv.pokernews.com/tours/wsop/...hips.21639.htm

2015 and 2016: I have to admit I follow poker a lot less than I used to, nothing jumps out at me.

Rooting for Scott Blumstein. I met him through 2p2 years ago and we've hung out at borgata and parx trips when we both were playing in poker opens. I don't think I've seen him in two years because I haven't gotten to play much with life and law school getting in the way but he is super friendly and super likeable. Solid player too.

Feature table should of course be the one with Lamb, Pham, Luske. They can't get that wrong can they?

I agree that the Lamb table should start on the Mothership.

Both Lamb and Ruane have gotten 4th in Main right? pretty sick. Who last person to reach a second ME FT besides Newhouse?

Re: *** WSOP 2017 Thread *** Half Hour Stream Delay - No Spoilers

If Newhouse hadn't already accomplished back to back then I'd say Ruane needs to be on the mothership.

As it stands he should be at the secondary table along with Hesp.

Lamb, Luske and the chipleader Pham have to be the main table.

If we can get to the final 2 tables with Lamb, Ruane, Saout and Hesp then this has the potential to be the best final table since 2009 which had Ivey, Shulman, Moon and Saout.

And lets hope the Flying Dutchman (sitting on 12 bigs) can find a quick double and come all the way back. Luske has been sitting on a short stack for 2 straight days but keeps hanging tough.

Saout with a not so great seat draw with 2 big stacks seated right behind them and Oliveria being 1 of them.
Feel bad for everyone sandwhiched between Pham and Lamb on that table, going to be rough for those 7 players.

Oliveria is my candidate for most likely to have a blow up.

For those that don't have friends or a financial interest in the remaining 27 players, if you could choose one player to make the final table who would it be? My pick: HESP.

Has anyone else done it in the post-boom era? I don't think so.

Closest thing is Dan Harrington 2003/2004, but those were smaller/softer fields. Even the 2004 tourney that Raymer won was probably exponentially easier to run deep in than today's fields due to size and player skill.

Some pretty good runs in recent years that I can remember:

Phil Ivey - 10th in 2003, 20th in 2005, 7th in 2009

Greg Raymer - 1st in 2004, 25th in 2005

Peter Eastgate - 1st in 2008, 78th in 2009

Dennis Phillips - 3rd in 2008, 45th in 2009

Jamie Robbins - 11th in 2009, 19th in 2012

Antoine Saout - 3rd in 2009, 25th in 2016, ?? in 2017

Ben Lamb - 14th in 2009, 3rd in 2011, ?? in 2017

An under-the-radar name is Vitaly Lunkin. Never made the final table, but has a lot of deep runs. 87th in 2017, 119th in 2015, 57th in 2014, 46th in 2013, and small cashes in 2010 and 2009. That's impressive when you consider the % of fields he's outlasting, but from a $$$ standpoint you'd easily trade all of those for even one final table appearance.

Joseph Cheong has one FT to his name and two finishes just outside the top 100.

At any rate, it's pretty impressive for Saout and Lamb to have made the top 27 three times within a decade. I don't think anybody else has done that when you only look at the post-boom years.

Wonder if pokershares are gonna have to evaluate some ROIs for players in the main. Lambs record for last 10 years is pretty insane.

Yeah it's pretty easy today. Pretty easy choice for Ruane/Hesp at secondary as well.
