Hi Everyone:
I'm just getting into stuff. But apparently in the world of psychoanalysis there is something called "transference" which has to do with patients falling in love with their psycho-therapist and is something the analyst doing the psychoanalysis has to guard against. I also know a similar problem occurs with Parkinson's patients who fall in love with their caretakers and begin to neglect family and friends. So could this idea of transference be happening to some of these very successful high stake players who seem to be totally enamored with their mental coaches?
Obviously Mr. Blumstein is a very good player who understands tournament strategy at a very high level and deserves much congratulations for his WSOP win. But having his first remark after drawing out on his last hand referring to his mental coach, especially in a way that would embarrass his mental coach, may be implying transference.
Also, for those interested in this topic we're going to be starting a series of articles in our September magazine by Robert Samuels, who has Ph.D. In psychology that will get into some of this stuff.
Best wishes,
Mason
