My pick is 'All in' and I doubt it can be beat. It has all the required ingredients:
-a large cast of absolute unknowns
-a main character (female) named Ace, who cannot act and thus screams in order to portray emotion. Most importantly, she is neither hot nor charismatic.
-The 'Matador'. And yes, of course he's playing a poker player. Again. Facing his off-spring at the final table. Again.
-generic Casino (named 'Casino'), poker tournament (named 'All in'- how's that for clever), a Commerce $5 chip prominently playing the part of a $10k tournament entry chip, a 'Satellite' into the 'All in' tournament, where the blinds start at 10/15, countless 'Shuffle up and deal!'s (delivered by an Ali Nejad knock-off) . And more!

What are your rejects?

they all suck pretty bad imo

only movies with a poker theme that i have liked are maverick and casino royale. both of those were good because poker was just a sub text that was part of a great story. movies about poker inevitably turn to cheeze and suck imo

I don't think anybody can watch "All In" and not put it at the top of the list. I've watched it more than once because it's so bad I find it humorous.

I know there are a lot of fans of "Rounders" here, so I'm expecting some flames, but I hated it.

Maybe I had heard so much hype before seeing it, that my expectations had been lifted too high.

Edward Norton's character was a cheat and scumbag. I couldn't root for him or his buddy (Damon) who facilitated and abetted his schemes.

Never bought Malkovich's over-the-top Russian accent for a minute.

Also thought the "oreo tell" was simplistic and contrived.

The scene where they run all over the city from game to game in an attempt to make a certain amount of money in a limited amount of time was ludicrous.

Gimme "A Big Hand For A little Lady" anytime.

Shade

And Its Not Even Close

Imagine a poker movie where the Poker Legend is played by Sylvester Stallone and his Hot Babe sidekick is Melanie Griffith - not the sorta cute 1980s Melanie Griffith, but the "After I met Antonio, I felt I neede to go to the same plastic surgeon as Loretta Swit and look mor like Andy Griffith" Melanie Griffith.

Then try and imagine a POKER Movie written and apparently produced, directed, and acted by people who apparentlhy have NEVER actually played a single hand of Poker. Throughout the movie they are playing no limit poker. Someone apparently thought that is was a good plot idea that if a Player has the Balls and Cash to go "all-in" and the Opponent cannot cover the bet - then the better wins the hand. I am not kidding.

Worst Poker Movie Ever.

Worse than Lucky You, Deal, All in or The Grand, I present to you:

ACES !

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460703/

Easily the worst poker movie of all time, featuring (amongst other laughable plot elements) a secret undercover cash game played with WPT chips from the case you can buy in stores everywhere, a totally random and gratuitous topless sex scene (wait, that's actually a good thing right?), and finally a cheating method compared to "giving a blowjob".

Highly recommended.

Except for the movie made on the heels of that horrible show where the villain from the show (the guy who played the Matador) played a similar role as a veteran poker player in the movie.

All In. Seriously, same actor, and his part is even worse in the movie than the show.

I'll admit though, some of these other movies people are coming up with I've never even heard of. Lucky You was horrible but still about 10x better than All In. Aces???? Never even heard of that one. I'd like to know how I can actually watch a movie as bad as All In on HBO while there's another poker movie released around the same timeframe that I've never even heard of? I shouldn't have even heard of All In!!!

It kills me how there were so many real players involved w/ Lucky You and it failed. The whole Drew Barrymore storyline was one of the main reasons and Eric Bana was not good for that role. I am yet to see All In or Deal but I did see Shade and so far that takes it.

The one I have in the pipeline will finally give us a good poker movie. I will be able to talk about the details soon enough.

I saw a Stu Ungar pic w/ Michael Imperioli as Stuey, also not a good flick.

There's a documentary w/ a woman trying to play poker, mainly omaha, and she travels w/ her ex-husband who knows nothing about poker. She makes bad plays and tells him people are getting lucky on her which is causing her to lose their money, he knows nothing so he obviously believes her. Kinda funny to watch her play him in a few scenes...
