One player stalls, all of them can feel entitled to stall. To prevent this unbearable mess what we have here imo is a code of honor. That fellow direspected his opponents and the game.

Regarding the payjump: he has > 95% equity to double up this hand. So it's a 5% chance he busts that hand. He can stall for what, 1-2 minutes here? Let's pretend it is 10% someone busts in this interim, which I predict is high (only 4 tables left, and I would think the other tables know an allin player who is effectively allin and stalling would wait him out).

He is stalling for a .05(.10) $50,000= $250 equity (and remember this is on the high end). This will ruin his time bank, either for a tough decisions or future opportunities for him to stall.
The table will break before he needs to stall again though?

I came away disliking Dan Smith. And is he even 5 feet tall? That may explain the way he behaves, short man over compensating?

Somewhere else you made reference to a time bank and Kaiser using his up with his tactics. Are you being literal? Is there really time bank for players in the main event?

If there's some nuts on the table I'll do it for free.

He's not even bending the rules, just his strategy.
Results orientated? Obviously.
Stupid? Probably.
Annoying to watch? Yes.
Annoying to play against? Nope.

Its neither my 10k or TV programme tho.

The floor is only going to come warn him so many times. During the AAA hand, he was told that any further problems were going to be a penalty. So if after the AAA hand, he needs a legit tank, now he will face a penalty.

llsnl_padawan, you sir, win this thread.

The rest of you "he's just maximizing his EV" tragedies, you disgust me.

I think if the money bubbles matter to you enough to stall, then you're playing too high in the first place. Yeah its 44k, but that's also only 4.4 BI (same applies if he's backed, its still for only 4.4x whatever he bought in for, in terms of his own money). Stalling is clear sign of being a scared degen.

Annoying to play / watch someone like this? Yes, no argument there, but poker is all about making EV+ plays (within the rules) right?
44K is a lot of money to most people. illdonk said it best.

I am COMPLETELY against tanking and would never do it....

HOWEVER, what if I was at an adjacent table and caught wind of what Kaiser was doing.

Wouldn't/Shouldn't I now be compelled to start tanking as well? And the rest of the players at his table...and the rest of the players at all the other tables? You see where I'm going with this??

Kaiser, and all tankers for that matter, are THE LOWEST OF THE LOW!

So you wouldn't do it for a billion dollars?

Why don't they play hand-for-hand in payjump bubble situations like this?

It's probably obvious, I'm just not seeing it.

You're not the hero we want, but you're the hero we need.

The guy didn't cheat or angle anybody. Criticizing him for caring more about 40k than upholding some vague poker "code of honor" is absurd. Check-raising used to be frowned upon FFS. All criticism should be directed at the WSOP for not having rules in place to prevent this kind of thing. Until they do, people who care more about huge sums of money than being liked at the poker table are going to stall in situations like this, it's really that simple. I'm baffled at the lack of empathy ITT.

Of course I'm not. Would never claim to be.

But I'm not a spineless maggot that would reduce myself to tanking in a situation like that.

Kaiser is POS for doing it. And I'm assuming you are one too.

I certainly wouldn't be above stalling in this situation if I felt it increased my equity enough, and I wouldn't feel bad about it whatsoever. Unfortunately poker is not filled with white knights like yourself, and I'd rather be the exploiter than the exploited. That's why there should be rules in place to prevent it from happening. Until then, people who care more about money than the sacred poker code will stall when it behooves them to do so, and those who don't will yell at clouds.

Wow, "spineless maggot," "POS," "THE LOWEST OF THE LOW," "you disgust me"...I'm impressed on how you repeatedly take the strongest possible position on a few delayed hands in a poker tournament.

Really, though? "The lowest of the low?" So actual cheaters/colluders/thieves (and we're leaving out your run-of-the-mill murderers and assorted felons) all rank higher on your scale than a guy who tanked a few hands to move up the pay ladder?

Again, no white knight here. You taking my statements to think that's how I'm coming across is laughable.

Of course outright cheating is worse. But those ppl are scumbags that know they're scumbags.

These bottom feeding stallers delude themselves into thinking they're doing nothing wrong....although I would guess deep down they know they're scum too (if it makes u happy, less scummy than full blown cheaters)
