difficult to see the aussie market doing a black friday mainly because you cant walk into a pub in oz without tripping on a pokie machine or bumping your head on a television showing horse racing, seem to encourage gambling. I dont even know what keno was it was everywhere.

Re: William Hill pulling out of Australian market.

Nobody has to worry about William Hill not paying out in this situation. Poker is only a very small part of their business and they are in good financial health, posting profits in the hundreds of millions of pounds every year in recent memory.

Re: William Hill pulling out of Australian market.

I am having trouble getting paid.

They will not player transfer the funds, won't cash it out to Moneybookers, and are telling me to "wait for a reponse".

Anyone else having problems getting paid?

Re: William Hill pulling out of Australian market.

I don't play poker but am in Australia and have had an account with William Hill for many years. Tried to bet on the French Open tennis this week but bet rejected as "unable to accept bets from your country".
Now trying to close the account but do not have a withdrawal method. Tried to register one, but all payment methods require one to make a deposit! Spent an hour on the chat line to WH support. They advised me to first make a deposit before my method could be registered as a withdrawal method. They told me to deposit 10 pounds via Paypal then withdraw my balance plus the 10 pounds. Tried to do this. Paypal rejects the transaction "This merchant does not accept payments from your country". Have left it with them (2 days ago). They promise to do a manual withdrawal to my Paypal account. I guess it will happen next week.

Re: William Hill pulling out of Australian market.

I just tried to login for the first time in 3-4 weeks, but am given "incorrect user name or pw" notice. When I click forgot my pw and enter details, it says "your new pw has been sent to closed<my email address>."

Wtf? Haven't received any correspondence from them about what is going on.

Re: William Hill pulling out of Australian market.

with ipokers new policy of two tiers, it seems u can only play on the bigger sites i.e.

Williamhill
bet365
paddypoker
poker770
betfred
titan
any others?

i know the first 3 dont accept aussies. neone know status of others? any other sites im missing? does this basically mean aussies r banned from ipoker now unless u want to play on a dodgy skin with no liquidity on a secondary network?

Re: William Hill pulling out of Australian market.

I would imagine this has more to do with sportsbetting than poker.

With the extremely grey and vague regulations around poker in this country(pls correct me if i'm wrong) isn't it supposedly illegal to offer online poker to Australians?

Sites like Pokerstars etc. generally ignore this because the govt hasn't picked a fight with them yet and they have no other real vested interest in us. Whereas to groups like Betfair and William Hill complying with the Australian govt and blocking what is a small percentage of their poker business will keep them in the good books down the track and not put at jeopardy their sportsbetting services in this region. We spend a lot on sports and horses by comparison with the poker rake we generate.

Has always been my impression, but could be way off.
