Will pro poker teams become like pro sports teams?

Will we ever see high profile 'transfers' of pros between one site and another? The selection of pro teams and their reasoning is currently quite secretive, but I'm sure if one of the big names decided to make it a commercial process the others would follow.

Perhaps pokers popularity has plateaued before this could ever happen. What would peoples opinions be if it did?

I don't think any poker site would benefit from this unless there was some type of challenge between all the poker sites. Like a big UB Pros vs FTP pros vs Stars Pros vs whatever site pros. And then in turn, the bigger names would somehow produce more income for each site.

Re: Will pro poker teams become like pro sports teams?

If they knew that that DN would win the WSOP Main Event, then possibly. But the best player in the world is still highly unlikely to win it.

But I don't think the correlation between poker skill and performance at high-profile events (like the wsop) is high enough to justify the expense. I think that's why instead we see people being signed after a lucky performance (Dennis Philips).

Compare this with something like football. The Vikings pick up a rejuvenated Favre and they get immediate results (not withstanding this past weekend). A much higher correlation with performance tends to get paid more, I would think.

the idea of "teams competing" would entail a "league" of some sort.... I know they tried the Professional poker tour a few years ago... Or something like that.... Kind of an interesting thought, though... Have teams from each site play each other....

teams exist because there are inherently "team" sports,

so no, poker "teams" will never exist, just promotional "teams"

you could certainly structure a league/tournament that causes poker to resemble a "team sport".

have you ever even played a team sport? lol.

Maybe we should make sure online poker survives first.

The Poker Nation's Cup handled teams pretty well imo.

There would be teams but it would remain a largely individual sport, like golf.
