Yes Eastgate did win first prize at the 2008WSOP and Ivan got 2nd place but they both earned a ton of money. I know Eastgate earned a few more million than Ivan but I'm surprised Ivan plays much lower in these cash games.

Is Ivan just playing just because he's a pokerstars pro and just needs to play the hours for the month?

Demidov had to give a large % of his winnings to someone who paid his tournament entry IIRC.

But he finished 3rd in the WSOPE Main Event 2008 as well. (for 600k$)

I think Demidov is just smarter than Eastgate and only plays the limits he can beat

Demidov was staked for his wins and only took a (small) portion of his main event winnings. I dont know if true, but heard that he had as little as 10% from his WSOP/WSOPE finishes. So no way he can bankroll the stakes that Eastgate is playing from that

getting 10% of a $10,000 tourney is effectively the same as getting a free entry into a $1k super tuesday tourney on pokerstars/full tilt.

Given that 90% of NVG posters would post pictures of them gargling rat poison to get an entry in the double deuce ($22 buyin), I dont think its a stretch to assume that an effective $1k tourney buyin complete freeroll would be an appealing proposition.

Eastgate blog in danish. He writes he used to play as high as 25-50 before he won the main event. He has earlier said that his main income was cashgame.

Pretty sure Demidov had > 10%, IIRC it was somewhere around 20-30%.
Some people posted on 2+2 that he had the same deal equal to a lot of other Russian tournadonks like Vitaly Lunkin. I believe the staker is called gipsy1974 (or it is the other gipsy??? guy).
He had to pay like 30-40% taxes on his winnings too (like Eastgate, although he did try that relocate to London thing before the FT).
Eastgate was already a pretty established player in the higher cash games (1000-5000NL although I don't think he won a lot at 5000) and he tried taking a shot at 10000NL+ on Stars after the ME win. It didn't work out and after losing for a month or three he quit. After his first EPT final table he tried it out again and did better. I'm pretty sure they deposit your EPT winnings in your PS account if you ask them so that's probably why he took another shot
