Re: Who are your top 5 picks in a WSOP fantasy draft?
Durrrr is good but not so sure about his tourny skills.
Ivey
Hellmuth
Shannon Shorr
Seidel
Lamb
Interested to see how blom does, since he does seem to be a good tourny player. But being good doesn't always equal success at the wsop. (Patrik, durrr etc)
Re: Who are your top 5 picks in a WSOP fantasy draft?
TBH, can't believe Phil Hellmuth isn't getting more love. He may not be the best cash game player in the world, but he's clearly a beast if you want a guy who is going to produce cashes and bracelets.
Blom or Dwan are some of the last guys you'd want to pick - the last thing you want is your big pick not putting in the time because they got distracted by a high stakes poker game.
I mean, I guess it just depends on what we're picking for. Are we picking the most entertaining guys to watch play, or are we picking guys that are actually going to produce?
I'd say Ivey and Hellmuth are top picks, and I wouldn't feel bad about having Elky, Mercier, or Selbst (although maybe Selbst isn't a first pick purely because I'd often expect to be able to pick her up in a later round as a huge bargain) either, provided I knew they all planned to show up and put in a lot of events.
I don't like watching the guy play, he annoys me, and I think he's kind of a dbag, and he's kind of terrible at cash games, but if I wanted to win, I'd be snap calling Hellmuth first pick. The guy is focused on showing up, playing hard, and taking home bracelets, something I don't think can be said for a lot of the younger cash game oriented guys.
Re: Who are your top 5 picks in a WSOP fantasy draft?
I think the key to the draft is finding players who are good at mix games (because of the small fields) and people that traditionally played in tons of events. If I were drafting in a big money league I would look at how many events people played last year and check social media sites to see if they plan on playing lots of events or if they have bracelet or P.O.Y bets that would motivate them to play in tons of events.
