Well based on history, after Moneymaker won in '03, PokerStars in subsequent years satellited in between 20% - 25% of the entire Main Event field. (Boy those were the salad days!)

An amateur wouldn't. I mean it's hard to get more amateur than an immigrant nail salon owner who needed 3 satellite attempts to get in the main event.

But a woman would at least make big news. It would be big news on sportscenter, in the national media etc. would be a good short term boon at least

Probably an old-school pro would be "best" for the game (even though I don't think it matters at all who wins the main at this point.)

I don't think having a woman win the main would really change anything. Like someone else said, women have to be slightly interested at poker at first, and once they realize that these extremely high-variance large field donkaments are just that, some might lose their interest.

New pro is okay but you have all those ~25+ y/o people who don't know about doug polk, jason les, or ben sulsky so that's kinda whatever.

Random person wouldn't matter. "Poker is a game of luck, no skill, any random person can win." This is the flipside to the positives of having a random win.

This is why I think having an old school pro bink it is the best. All of those people that were perhaps remotely interested in poker might get back into it seeing that there's longevity to the game for one's career.

If it were to happen (which it won't) a female poker boom would last about 3 months. It never fails that there will always be one guy at the table that has to try to hit on and make sexual innuendos towards a female dealer or player at the table.
