What kind of player? I have grouped them into categories and rank them from what type of player you would most like to see win to least like to see win.


Big Name Old School Pro - Guys like Hellmuth, Dnegs, Matusow, Ferguson, Seidel, Johnny Chan, Todd Brunson, Cloutier, Forrest etc etc.

Big Name Elite New School pro - Guys like Polk, Mercier, Petrangelo, Bonomo, Dan Smith, O'Dwyer etc etc.

Non-American Crusher - Guys like Kempe, Sammartino, Mateos, Elky, Carrel, Kurganov, Kitai etc etc.

Up and Coming Young Pro - Guys like Daniel Strelitz, Pesh De Silva etc etc.

Unknown Pro (with Moderate Results) - Guys like what Gordon Vayo would have been last year. Guys who are professional but have yet to reply make their mark on the poker world at large

Amateur With Results - An amateur who has a few WSOP deep runs here and there but is not a poker professional.

Completely Unknown Amateur - Like a Chris Moneymaker or Qui Nguyen

A woman - self explanatory, own category because there are so few female players compared to the % of the field and that a woman has never won it.


The Poll is what type you would like to see win it. But also discuss what type WILL win it and what type would be best for poker to win it.

A woman winning would be great, it would inspire more women to take up the game. 95/5 male/female ratio is way too lopsided.

His old school guys are all guys that got their start prior to Moneymaker and were already known in the poker community. The new school guys on his list are the online grinders that either transitioned to live or do both now and became known names after Moneymaker.

A hot amateur american woman to win the main would create a bigger boom than the first one. just think in an alternate universe that happened and were all living like fat rats driving around 2017 toyota camrys and all the while not putting any effort into our games and not exploding are brains trying to figure out wtf doug polk is talking about .... ah the dream.

Not a chance that would create even close to as big a boom as the first one. Women would have to actually watch the main event in order to be inspired by it.
