Who is Darvin Moon? Who is Darvin Moon?

I don't dislike him, but it is too easy to be jealous and resentful when someone luckboxes their way to $1m+

At least he was humble. If in Novemeber he starts coming out with any trademark Dennis Phillips "I'm older, I'm wiser" type comments I might just lose it.

Team Ivey FTW!

wow, all that hate for him, well he's in a place all of us are not,he's playing in November and were in front of a computer.
I'll root for the everyday man. it will be interesting to see if he wears online sponsorship in November.
maybe some online coaching site.

Nothing against him I also hope he comes in 2nd.

Maybe he needshow a bit more charm/charisma like Phillips did.

Like if he is the Avg guy he should be a bit more excited IMO.

The image consultants from Harrahs will sort him out.

I still cant figure out how some one with his lack of skill (So he says) got so far in the ME. Is everyone else doing it wrong?

nobody knows how this guy thinks

which is a problem

i mean good for him if he wins, but he seems like the kinda guy who would take the 8m and you would NEVER hear from him again, would probably turn down all the TV offers etc, doesnt seem to like the camera

Darvin is really "what you see is what you get". It really stands to reason that a man who has never played in a professional tournament, never been on a plane or handled the media may appear somewhat unpolished. He was so thrilled to just have made the WSOP that he has already acheived a level of success that he never imagined.

He is a hard-working, devoted son and uncle that just won enough money to help his family immensely, even if he doens't make another penny. The community is thrilled for him and proud he made the final 9.

Go Darvin! (By the way, the Saints hat has ALWAYS been on his head! No formal endorsement there

Has he done an interview yet where he voiced his opinion on the layoff until November? Given that he's not a media whore, poker-wise he should be super pissed... he's running like God right now and in four months, he's probably going to get picked apart, chip lead or no chip lead.

why should he be pissed? he knew what he signed up for going in. the november thing does not look like it hurt attendance.

i think the layoff might be bad for him as he does not seem to have alot of confidence so hopefully people won't get in his head too much and try to drastically alter his playing style.

Everyone knew the deal, I was simply stating that in his other interviews he openly admitted to getting so many big hands and always getting paid off, even ranking himself like #6300 out of 6400 people that he knows he's running hotter than the sun, and given the break now, he's got the most to lose...

This guy winning isnt good for poker. It totaly shoots the skill arument in the foot. I wish him all the best and hope he does well but he's very bad for poker.
On a lighter note I would love to know how these people go on these runs where they just crush the deck and have people with big enough hands to keep paying him off. I mean look at like gold, philips and now this guy. I play about 2 million or more hands a year and I can't think of any time I have just straight crushed for like a week solid.

Good lord are you serious? You hate the fact that the US deems online poker illegal that much? No matter how much you want to believe poker is all skill let me tell you it's not. I hope this guy wins just so he pisses you off. You got to get off this high horse with this belief that a great poker player can always win and start to accept that luck plays a part because it does buddy.

Other than being an older, unassuming white guy, I really don't think he compares that well with Phillips.

Dennis was fairly a respected player in the st louis casinos before his ME run last year.
(although you wouldn't know it from his FT performance)

From what I've seen in interviews, Darvin seems to just be on a mindless heater.

Either way, I really hope this guys finishes second to Ivey.... I'd love to see him get signed on to pstars/fulltilt so he can start donating something back (i can dream)

-Table folds around to the blinds.
-SB (Moon) raises.
-BB (Antonio) calls.
-Flop comes Q33 rainbow.
-Moon checks.
-Antonio bets.
-Moon raises.
-Antonio raises a million more.
-Moon moves all-in.
-Antonio quickly folds.

Nobody showed their cards and I'm really curious as to what Moon held. I'm hoping they'll show it on ESPN.

Darvin had nothing, it was complete bluff. (2 & 4, not sure if they was suited or not)

When he folded pocket kings preflop, and other guy showed pocket aces.

I know Darvin personally. I played cards at Clarysville Fire Hall (usually on Wednesday) with him for the past three years, and I was also there in Wheeling when he won the satellite. He does not do well in front of the cameras, but he is a decent card player. Say what you want, lucky or not, to be the chip leader (20 million over 2nd place) is impressive. He is a country boy, he is not dumb. He has made an honest living cutting trees, a very hard worker. He is a great guy and I would bet this experience does not change him. He was offered a 1 year contract thru PokerStars, and he turned it down.

well when the event is played is not going to effect whether he wins or not obviously. just as likely to run then as to run hot now etc.

i think the big negative for him is the pressure is going to build and he might be prone to making a couple big mistakes.

also who knows if he is a good player or whatever but he is just being humble unlike most people in this country.

it's amazing some people can have so much hate for some random guy that they have never met or actually seen play poker.

Meh, I have grown up in the South played in tons of backroom games and country boys are my least favorite to play with. Sexist, racist alcoholics and hunters. Yes it is a stereotype but the majority of country boys are met are like this. Very few dont have one of these qualities. (Who are also Poker Players, tried not to interact with just regular joes don't know anything about them)
