He did in interview in 2009 after playing isildur saying that he never before in his life reviewed an opponent or his own hand history and that after playing that first session with isildur was the first time in his life that he did. He also said in the same interview that he had never played more than 2 tables at a single time before playing that year.

I don't think my post count is high enough to post links, which is good because I don't feel like finding them. It's should be on youtube though.

Its far known that PA climbed the stakes in poker together with Sahamies and they even shared the same roll at some times. So its not like he didnt "study" at all, just mabe didnt read books or used computer software. Discussing poker scenarios with other players might be the best way to learn.

I also think playing only two tables might teach you some things multitabling doesnt. I might try that some day too...

Don't know the origin of his roll, however I do know that Patrick is one of the biggest backers in the game. He buys up a lot of action from reputable mtters and makes a good chunk of his income from buying action. One tourney alone he staked the grinder and his brother Rob in the 50K players championship and Grinder won it and his brother took like 8th or something.... Big money to be made in backing the right horses...

This is obviously not what really happened.

Just a brief time line:

1998: Starts playing poker by joining a $25 live donkament. Wins $250. Loses $250 and several deposits down the line.
2002: Starts playing online regularly. Starts winning.
2003: Grows BR from $20.000 to $80.000 at the end of the year. Travels to play low limit live MTT. First entry in Hendon Mob Database is 11/2003.
2004: Starts playing as high as $50/$100 NLHE heads-up, even though he plays $5/$10 PLO most of the time. BR at the end of the year is $250.000
2005: (Continues winning online and) Goes on a huge tear in high stakes live tournaments, winning $1.5m++ in 5 months.
2006-today: Playing $200/$400 NLHE HU vs bad_ip, Fast_Freddie etc. Continues to play and crush the biggest games, both online and live.
2007: Playing in The Big Game. He didn´t even know about the Game early on, and told himself he would only join the Game if he won $2m more. Later tells a journalist that the one time he was very close to going busto was after losing $1.2m in The Big Game in three days.
2008: Joins Team Full Tilt in June. Proclaims that the chances of him going busto are "zero".

Certainly seems like it took him several years to get to high stakes, let alone nosebleeds. Take away that huge MTT rush in late 2005 and things might have turned out very differently for him.

This whole "never read a book" thing is obviously a myth. He may not have found good books regarding online play early on, but he most certainly never had access to stuff that might have seriously helped his game once he started crushing nosebleeds. This is him in April 2007:

"I haven't really worked on my game that much lately. I used to work so much on improving my game. Even when I wasn't playing, I was playing all the hands, the situations, the players, analyzing everything. Now I'm just basically playing, nothing more. I still have to improve, but I can't complain."

How can you say he backs reputable MTT players and then name Mizrachi? They're both huge fancy play spewers.

Because they give the best ROI if you were to back them considering the amount of tourney money they have accumulated. So they are a "reputable' MTT person to be backing.

Yup. Its said it was P.A. on sonnerts account that night, even if it was or it wasnt P.A. was a reg in these games and this is how it could look.

God, I loved that software.

Remember I_Knockout_U flashing his bankroll one time at FL, sitting in with $666,666. Long before I knew who he was.
This was sometime in 2004 IIRC.

mini view was a must to be a contender in the rake races that some guy/bot always won. anyone remember the name of that guy! it was like 5 letters followed by a 2 digit year i believe (XXXXX89, don't remember the year.) a while after a second guy/bot started taking second place every month and his name was XXXXX+1 year (XXXXX90).

yes, that software was the nuts.

It was fantastic. Reloading on it was a little annoying if you were in a quick HU match but yeah agree with the Prima software being amazing. It was really fast and fun. When they "upgraded" to a completely new version I stopped playing the network, cant quite believe why a company would downgrade their software that much out of choice.

Anyone remember the $1 million winner take all freeroll they ran for the sites best cash players through the levels? Durrrr played it (CaptCanary won it) http://archives1.twoplustwo.com/show...fpart=all&vc=1 .

As for Patrick, his match vs prahlad friendman (I_KNOCKOUT_U vs Zweig) was one of the better ones to rail at the 200/400 hu table.

That hand with Sammy was one of few times I've seen Patrik break his poker face and make a funny reaction. Sammy calls all in and PAtrik is like 0_0

lol nice work, could be right. I have vague memories of TheMenace being a good player at the higher levels.
