I heard that many poker players use to and still play starcraft. Is there some sort of correlation between the two? I read something that in starcraft you need to be quick just like when your playing poker 24 tabling etc.

I never play any video games or games like that of that sort. I googled and checked starcraft images on google and it just look some cartoon video game.

Why do so many players llike Elky who are real good at playing starcraft do so well at poker? I am pretty sure there's no math at starcraft right?

I know for sure Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey don't play starcraft. I doubt even Tom Dwan plays it.

Started from teamliquid.net lots of notable posters there who were successful at SC tried poker, got good at it, and inspired lots of them to play as well I guess. There is also a poker site that branched off of TL much like 2p2, for discussion of hands etc and just as a general poker community which I frequent.

I'm not a TL poster so I don't know all of it, but my friend is and that's what he has told me regarding the SC > Poker thing.

Also SC is a game where you play your opponent and fight for resources I guess. It is similar to poker in that way, but I guess if you stretch it you can compare a lot of things to poker. I think PC gaming (esp. RTS) and online poker multi-tabling are pretty similar though in that it'll require fast thinking and clicking.

People who are into game theory like to play games.

Both games are very much appreciated by nerds.

What you need to beat poker is the same set of skills as you need to win in any other game. It is just a game after all.

A lot of the things you need to get good at starcraft are the same things you need to get good at poker. Most important of which is the ability to play a game on the internet for 12 hours a day.

Like people who were into chess, and backgammon, and Magic: The Gathering, and other things, realized they could make a lot more money playing poker. So they did. =)

It's like how I started out playing sensible soccer, naturally I moved over to poker.

This. And, Elky says in a pokertube interview that in starcraft, you know other opponents preffered strategy from previous games (similar to poker), and also it is a game of incomplete information. These two factors are incredibly similar to poker and intelligent people can transfer skills from one to the other. It is probably also worth noting that chess does not share these characteristics with poker/starcraft.

I played online starcraft once.

I joined a four player game, felt I was inexperienced so I decided just to build a load of bunkers around my base and play defense.

The other player started having a conversation about me in the chat.
"Yellow a noob?"
"Yup"
"Major noob"
