Gambling isn't his only addiction, but the sports betting part of the story made my stomach hurt

Voted this thread 5 stars after watching Owning Mahonwny and California split.

This is not good quality but I liked it, it is a UK gambler, that actually became a well known horse owner, he won the most prestigious National Hunt race the Gold cup after buying a horse called Denman. Then a couple years later he got a lifetime ban from the sport for "laying" bets against his own horse. This documentary made him famous and is more about his everyday life and well before buying the superstar horse.

Yea good movie but gambling is not really the lead topic in this film, more the relation between the lead actors, but there is gambling in it, the old master shows the wild not to smart kid the ropes and rules of how to win at gambling and in life.

I think The Gambler with Caan has to take top spot in the purest sense of degen. Interested in the Wahlberg remake. Owning Mahowny is a close second with its true to life story and a great performance by PSH.

Agreed, Owning Mahoney is the best, ainec.

Very authentic and compelling portrait of a gambling addict, and is one of Philip Seymour Hoffman's very best performances. To top it off, it is based on a true story and does not really embellish or overly dramatize the real-life story at all either.
