Jesse may's book shut up and deal is probably the best fictional account of degenerate gamblers/ poker players hanging around the casino. Whole story pretty much takes place at the taj in Atlantic city, which was my 2nd home throughout the '90's. So it really hit home for me.

California Split is legit.

Hard Eight is good, not all that much gambling, but set in Vegas, and I think it's pretty damn good.

Canadian movie and I'm sure Canadians will appreciate it more cause it is set around the '72 Summit Series.
Total Degens become bookmakers and get in trouble with loansharks.

California Split is for sure the best Poker movie though.

I just watched a few of the movies/documentaries named in this thread. In order of most liked to least liked:

1. Owning Mahowny- Don't read spoiler if you haven't seen the movie... (duhhh)

Spoiler:

2. The Theroux gambling documentary was pretty good imo. It's kind of sad in a way... At least most of the people on their seem like they can afford to lose that much money and still be OK. With the exception of one guy that gets super depressed after he loses a lot of money.

3. Poker bustouts- I thought this was a pretty horrible short film, it did not keep my interest and was hard to watch.
