(now if you want the greatest gambling novella about descent into degeneracy, I highly recommend the Dostoyevsky story although it isn't the easiest of reads...)
House of Games by David Mamet has some nice Poker Scenes and loads of short con/long con stuff (and the 'you've been steamrolling over me/I'm from the United States of Kiss My Ass'. speech that Saint Etienne sampled on Foxbase Alpha.)
The Gambler is a solid movie.
Croupier sucks. Hodges can direct but Clive Owen is mince.
Yeah, I also just wanna chime in and say Owning Mahowny is great, outstanding performance by Seymour Hoffman. Read on the imdb boards (something which always leaves me with less faith in humanity) where someone was complaining that he was boring and nothing special, pretty much the complaint was that his performance was "unflashy", which is precisely why it is so good. The polar opposite of how, say, Nicolas Cage might treat such a role.
The Theroux doc was very entertaining. He presses those people so hard with his questioning. The best part is when he's talking with the old lady Hilton employee in the presence of the old lady slot player. She's totally unprepared for his interrogation.

I liked when he was asking the slot lady questions.
"So is there any skill involved in these?" "Any what?"
