I did not see Runner, Runner in the thread (I may have missed it.).
However, both the hero and his father are gambling addicts. John Heard does a good job in a small role as the father, a total degen. Justin Timberlake, as Richie the hero, not so much ....
I liked the movie's overall entertainment value, but its take on gambling seemed to be
1. it is a sin to lose (the father and his bad dad/husband speech), and
2. a sin to cheat (Ben Affleck's Ivan Block, or the Super-Affiliate guy who cheats on his wife), but
3. not a problem to double down and gamble away, so long as you win .... as Richie and his new girlfriend steal the jet to fly off into the Puerto Rica sunset (perhaps bound for Antigua (?) to build up a new operation with the contacts/data swiped along with the jet from Affleck's "Midnight Black" ?)
