Rep. John Campbell (R-CA), sponsor of H.R. 1174, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act, posted some pictures from our poker rally on his Facebook wall. Let's all be sure to thank him and to like the submission!

Simply go to http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...24.60546090739 and click the "like" link. Then, please post some kind words of thanks for the support.

If you've not done this yet, please have a look at it now. If you have, please like some of the pro-poker comments. It's not every day that a 100% FoF-rated conservative lawmaker posts pro-poker comments. IMO he needs to hear from all of us.

Curious as to who has been active here so far? Check out http://www.facebook.com/browse/?type...50240020840740.

Meet your Member of Congress in August

Congress will be breaking for its annual August recess soon, so let's start preparing now for our senators' and representatives' townhall meetings. Townhalls are a great opportunity for us to meet with our Members of Congress to tell them that we want pro-poker legislation, so let's all try to do this.

Not all townhall meetings are widely advertised. To get the most up-to-date information, please take the time now to call your Member of Congress and ask that you be notified should any townhall meetings be scheduled.

The PPA put together a useful guide that gives the ins and outs of townhall meetings, including a tool to get phone numbers for Congressional offices.

Thanks!

Any fellow Alabama poker players want to meet up and hit some District 7 office? Terri Sewell is my rep in Tuscaloosa. I think Spencer Bachus might have an office here too. It would be good if we could get a cross-section of folks together -- to visually impress upon people that online poker players come from all demographics. I would be representing the poor 50 y/o disabled white female demographic. It wouldn't break my heart if Shannon Shorr joined us to represent the young, successful players.

August is soooooo the wrong month for me to get out (I'm heat intolerant), but I'll do it if we can get a small group together. Otherwise, I'll prolly just do phone and email stuff.

PM me if you're in Tuscaloosa or B'ham or otherwise in District 7. Thanks.

I am on the phone right now with Lamar Smith (R) Texas and want to probe about Online Poker. What should my question(s) be? Keep in mind, he is my Congressperson, I am not looking to rail him and piss him off. Honest questions that move us forward are good.

This is a live phone call Town Hall meeting

Nevermind, call is done. I am leaving a message simply asking his opinion about his stance in regards to Online Poker and also giving info on taxes that could be collected.

Good job.
For future reference, PPA has a "talking points" page. I would review it before calls:

It was a rerun that discussed slot machine addiction.

There is a post on the 60 Minutes Facebook wall to which we ought to post our thoughts: http://www.facebook.com/60minutes/posts/130738363684149

Sites can also utilize software tools to identify patterns that indicate compulsive behaviors. In fact, a Harvard study shows that licensed and regulated online poker is better at addressing problem gaming than is prohibition.

Huizenga keeps it local

Reviews were mixed last week after U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga hosted his first town hall meeting on Facebook. The Zeeland Republican got only ten “likes” and several complaints about his failure to address questions about H.R. 2366, a bill that would regulate online poker.

I attended a Town Hall Meeting with Richard Nugent today (FL-5). I was not able to ask about online poker or HR 2366 during the question time, but I was able to talk with him after the meeting. He didn't really seem to know much about the issue, despite me sending him at least 4 emails in the past, and asked me to send him another email about the issue. I sent the email a few hours later. I hope that after actually meeting me, he will pay attention to the email I sent today.

One thing that was really striking about the meeting was the age of the people attending. No offense to older generations, but I would bet that 80% of the people there will die of natural causes within 10 years. These are the people who are shaping our policies right now. I'm sure they mean well, but I doubt that my concerns (I'm 31) coincide much with theirs. More of the general population (median age in the US is 36.8) needs to start giving a damn and get out there and be heard. This country is getting more f'd up every day, and people need to take action.
