count me in for lottery boycott. pretty easy as I've never purchased a lottery ticket in my life. will aslo encourage my friends and family which I'm pretty sure have also never purchased lottery tickets.

I doubt we can actually make a dent in lottery sales with a boycott, but it might work to get some press. which can't hurt at this stage.

Let's all be sure to participate in the community daily action plan! It is an easy, effective way for us to magnify our individual voices. By organizing, we have succeeded in securing virtually 100% of political social media poker discourse. State and federal lawmakers have noticed!

Let's also all try to post suggestions for future actions. After all, while the plan does work closely with PPA to optimize effectiveness of the plan, it's not part of PPA. It's the community plan and I'm simply the facilitator (as I have been since well prior to my role with PPA). Thanks!

Lotteries attacked online poker legislation. I get why many opposed Reid/Kyl, but the director of the NH Lottery even testified before Congress against the Barton bill.

PPA is not attacking lotteries (at this time). The discussion here is about if the DAP should focus on lotteries.

I'm also for more freedom. But a boycott is not an attack of a product, but an attempt to shed light on an issue by the party that provides or sells that problem. Possibly even create financial pressure for them to address that issue.

I also have no ethical problem with lotteries, but if the lottery is going to attack online poker on the ground that it will hurt their bussines, then I'm going to attack the lottery's bussines to defend poker. Certainly we can (and should) engage them in a logical debate on why these two can and should (both financially and ethically) coexist. But seeing as they started their attacks from a ridiculous position that holds little ground I doubt such a debate would serve to change their minds.

So a boycott (however weak in financial impact) might be the kind of buzz word to draw attention to our cause and create some press. Then we could happily point out the hypocrisy of federal and state goverments that run legal and advertised lotteries for the public, but prevent citizens from participating in a game of skill where they wager their own money. No need to elaborate on that point as I'm sure you understand.

Lottery boycotts make more sense to me if we are trying to pursue Federal legislation than if we're going the state by state route. They have much more clout at the state level than we are ever going to have and are likely to be strong advocates for expanding online gambling. It may end up making sense to pressure lotteries in specific individual states, but they are going to be our allies in others if we go state-by-state.

and let's just avoid addressing the whole "poker is rigged" post above. If you want to talk about improving actual security in poker then legislation and regulation are definitely things you want to get behind. Mostly because we have a court to take our cases to when we find cheaters instead of having to rely on the sites to take action and make us whole.

Also it would allow the sites we play on to be publicly traded companies which would help (to some extent) prevent the kind of fraud that FTP perpetrated.

that is all I think anyone needs to say about that topic.

Well said.

I moved the post in question to the "online poker is rigged" thread (here), both because this isn't a PPA thread (he sought to debate PPA tactics on the matter) and because it's certainly not a place to debate if online poker is rigged or not. As you say, anyone believing online poker is rigged should be very supportive of all the bills that seek to license online poker in the U.S., as all include important consumer protections.

This is exactly the kind of nonsensical comment that doesn't move us toward correcting wrongs.

Legislation and regulation won't improve security in on-line poker - these things come in to play AFTER cheating and corruption has occurred.

Agreed, that having the courts deal with cheaters is the right course. But what controls and transparency do the sites offer that can assure lawmakers and regulators that cheating and corruption can't flourish in a new, on-line poker market?

Think you might be confused about public v private companies. One cannot assume that on-line poker providers will be public companies.

"that is all I think anyone needs to say about that topic"? - ya right.

You're overstepping here Rich, and that's disappointing. You cannot discuss one point so narrowly as to dismiss concerns that may arise from that point. In doing so, you're selectively deciding what you want people in this thread to appreciate, and what you want them not to read.

The title alone, "online poker is rigged", only attracts non-believers, non-supporters. You know this, and you selectively controlling the discussion and arguments, you're abusing a privilege that you have, and censoring a topic that should be wide open to discussion.

Percival,

I'll disregard the posted questioning of forum moderation and will simply answer the question on posting rules.

The 2+2 forums are the home of vigorous debate. No one will stifle you. To the contrary, I'd love to discuss the various steps being taken to provide for consumer protections. However, we can't all just jump into threads and derail them -- especially when we have two entire subforums (Poker Legislation and the 2+2 PPA forum) devoted to that type discussion. Rather, simply either start a thread in PL or find one appropriate to this discussion.

can you summarize your point? are you suggesting you don't want to support legal regulated online poker because some people might try to cheat and take your money? By that logic you shouldn't go play live because players can cheat there too. And you shouldn't support legal home games because people could cheat you there. And you really shouldn't support a federally regulated stock market because cheating abounds there.

If you feel personally that the risks of being cheated in online poker out weight the rewards than it obviously makes sense for you to stay away. But that is a personal decision and really shouldn't impact your opinion on legislation.

Whether or not you personally are interested in playing online, you can't argue that I shouldn't be allowed to because someone might try to cheat me. Just like you can't argue that just because you don't trust credit cards I shouldn't be allowed to open one.

Percival fwiw you seem like a thoughtful sincere guy. I hope you are taking part in the daily action plan, and regardless of whether or not I agree with your opinions about the state of security in online poker (or your feel for the game) I hope that you'll continue to support American's freedom play online poker.

I think if we have federally licensed and regulated online poker the likelihood that a site would exist that fits your criteria for being safe and fun would greatly increase.
